PTV is keen on breaking a YouTube world record with a little help from Ertugrul

The channel wants to rack up over 6.6 million subscribers by the end of this month
Updated 12 May, 2020

It is no surprise that Turkish drama Dirilis Ertugrul has become a monster hit, not only in the Middle East but also right here in Pakistan, being binge-watched by millions quarantined in their homes.

Recently, after Prime Minister Imran Khan encouraged Pakistanis to watch the series, the country's national channel is mobilising fans and followers to break a new world record.

"Let’s get the world record for most new subscribers in 1 month on YouTube. The current record is 6.6 million and the channel Ertugrul Ghazi can beat that with your love! We have 15 days to make history,"

The channel then posted that within 14 hours of their request, they witnessed an increase of 94,000 subscribers, updating a live countdown of the exciting news.

"Due to the unprecedented following of #ErtugrulUrduPTV on PTV, and its mass appeal with Pakistani audiences, the official YouTube channel #TRTErtugrulByPTV has crossed 1 million followers & counting! Long live Pakistan-Turkey friendship!" they celebrated.

Just 5M more subscribers to go! Bet Shaan's not going to be happy about this...

The real Ertuğrul (died c. 1280) without any fight fled from his native West-Central Asia to Anatolia (present Turkey) to escape the Mongol conquests.

PTV should be making records with their own locally made content, not for some Turkic serials.

Amazing response to a great serial. People like Shaan should try to produce something similar rather than crying sour grapes.

The title is bit confusing, little help ? What is the contribution of PTV, a drama made in other country is being aired on third country platform and PTV lapping self for great achievement.

It is sad that we can not produce world class media always depend on imported bollywood or Turkish media. Ultimately it is the producers of these media earns royalty. Also this shows our confusion of identity between Arabic or Turkish or Indian.

Not to say that Ertugrul shouldn't play here, but our drama industry is fast running out of their own creative content. More productions like Suno Chanda etc also need to come out.

I watched it , off and on , I must say the whole thing is so well done , it looks real , the intensity of action is very captivating , acting so mature, the content so captivating ,Pakistani drama can learn a lot , and make real life dramas on Muslim heroes , the glamorous rule of Hindustan by the Muslims for seven hundred years , the evolvement of poetry , and music and the cuisine , allthat developed in those seven hundred years of Muslim rule.
