Pakistani cricketers Musa Khan, Yasir Shah, Imran Khan, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi met an Indian taxi driver on their way to dinner in Brisbane. The taxi driver was excited to ferry the players to dinner and refused payment for the ride.

In return for the generous gesture, the cricketers invited him to dinner with them.

ABC Grandstand commentator Alison Mitchell shared the heartwarming story to start the day’s play on Sunday’s match in the ongoing Australia vs Pakistan test series.

And there are some cute pictures too!

We'll overlook the fact the team was out eating heavy desi food on tour again.

Good stuff, if there's so much respect and love between people of India and Pakistan, i hope the governments too exhibit the same behavior.

Indians and Pakistanis are great friends, rather brothers. It is only the politics which has separated and antagonized against each other. Hats off to those Pakistani cricketers and that Indian. My question - is there some sort of ethnic issue going on in the team? What I see is all the pushtoon cricketers from the team together and none of the cricketers from Punjab or if there is anyone from Karachi (Urdu speaking) cricketer from the team joining them. This is not good because how can the team bond and gel together, if they don't mix together? Why will the pushtoon cricketers play for their Punjabi captain or coach, if they don't even want to sit down and have dinner with them or go out/hang with them. Majority of them are very young cricketers, they need guidance as how to handle fame, how to act in public, etc etc. In other words they need leadership of the team with them at all times. If Pak wants to progress then Pak needs to get out of this ethnicity issue and ensure all get along together otherwise Pak will end up splintering on ethnic lines.

I recall reading stories of the Pakistan team that visited New Zealand under Mushtaq Muhammadcin 1979. The team would involve the watching young boys in their practice, letting them bowl at them and even get out to them! The article in the cricketer magazine written by a New Zealand reporter was all praise to the team that included Javed Miandad, Wasim Raja, Haroon Rasheed,ImrancKhan, Majid Khan, Sarfaraz Nawaz etc. I amcso proud that our present team is also making friends.

What is so special about it? If somebody take you free for a ride of say 40-50 dollars (yes taxis are expensive in Australia) then you feel obliged to return the favours. Same things were done by two parties here. Not a big deal.

I am an Indian and I remember reading a story by Sunil Gavaskar during the 1978 tour of India to Pakistan. In Lahore, a taxi driver gave him a ride even though it was not in the direction that the taxi driver was heading and then refused to take the fare because according to him (driver) "aap to hamare mehmaan ho." It was heartwarming to read even back then.

On many occasions when I go to to New York or Chicago I often encounter north Indian or Pakistani cab drivers. They are surprised when I talk to them in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi. or Sariaki. At the end of the trip they often refuse payment and say "tusi apne hi bande ho" or similar . But of course I always insist on Paying them the fare and a good tip to boot.
