Nasir Khan Jan was bullied on a morning show. This needs to stop now

Why is Nasir Khan Jan's shirtless video 'vulgar' when mainstream heartthrobs routinely take off their shirts too?
Updated 08 May, 2019

Whether you like him or not one thing's for sure - Nasir Khan Jan is a social media sensation, with his viral videos garnering thousands of views from all over the country.

On Tuesday Samaa's morning show Naya Din invited Khan Jan on air for an interview. The rehearsal segment that Khan Jan shared on his YouTube channel showed things going smoothly. However, the show that aired was the complete opposite of it.

Host Muhammad Shoaib became verbally aggressive towards his guest, raised his voice and repeatedly calling him "vulgar". Fellow host Kiran Aftab remained silent, smirking every so often during Shoaib's hurl of insults towards Khan Jan.

Shoaib was referencing a video of Nasir Khan Jan in which the social media personality can be seen dancing in a bathroom wearing a towel around his waist.

Ironically, during the course of the show, Shoaib kept interrupting Nasir while he tried to explain himself and told him to 'calm down' while yet again aggressively telling him to tolerate his own comments.

Let's make one thing clear: personal attacks are not okay, not on TV, not in real life.

For a host to invite a guest on board and lash out the way Shoaib did is appalling. It represents a total lack of etiquette and common courtesy. Disagreeing with someone and promoting a healthy discourse is acceptable, but shaming someone isn't.

Shoaib was irresponsible and his treatment was unethical and problematic. He called Khan Jan's dance video "vulgar" - but it's clear that it's only because Khan Jan's image does not align with Shoaib's idea of masculinity and propriety.

If a man dancing in a towel is vulgar then where is the same outrage to Ranbir Kapoor's famous towel dance in Saawariya? Or Aamir Khan's bathroom dance in 3 Idiots? Or even Bollywood's forever shirtless hero Salman Khan, who danced in a towel in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega?

Or for that matter, if we talk about our local celebrities... what about Feroze Khan's shirtless gym selfies or Mohsin Abbas Haider's workout photographs?

Just because Nasir doesn't reflect society's dominant idea of "manliness" or attractiveness does not give Shoaib the right to speak to him with disrespect. Before losing his cool, he should've re-evaluated his bias and corrected himself - if only people checked themselves before acting upon their impulses.

Entertainment is subjective and does not have to appeal to everyone, Shoaib should've left his personal bias at home and not let that get in the way of his work. In our opinion, the only thing vulgar was Shoaib's behaviour on the show.

We applaud Nasir for staying level headed throughout the show and not letting the hosts get to him.

Twitter also called out the host for his troublesome behaviour.

Mohammad Shoaib has since responded to the outrage, saying: "I respect criticism and silence is my best response."

This is a kind of sexist against a man who live as he wants to , these two anchors should be ashamed of themselves
Ahsan Gul May 07, 2019 03:53pm
People like Shuaeb lack confidence and not suitable to be hosting any show for public’s interests. Inviting someone must require pre knowledge of the guest and Shuaeb has failed. He should be stopped to host any show. And for Jan, he must take Shuaeb to court for retribution and insults.
Sabir Pakistani May 07, 2019 04:06pm
The host of the show should be immediately fired. Everyone knows Nasir Jan but no one knows this host. Who is he to judge Nasir jan or anyone. You invited Nasir and than insulted him?? Pathetic boycott SAMAA TV.
Maliha Azmi May 07, 2019 04:14pm
This is terrible!! imposing your opinion and trying to make people ashamed simply for expressing themselves. The host should apologize. It is exactly this kind hosting that breeds INTOLERENCE....if the host has a problem, he should watch what he doesn't have a problem with...We live in the 21st century. everyone should be able to live however they want to. Blaming people who don't fit in your BOX for everything that is wrong in soo irresponsible.
KAHN May 07, 2019 04:15pm
These two anchors are disgrace! They should be fired for being so unprofessional. Borrowing good clothes and sitting in front of a camera doesn't make you an anchor.
Jehanzeb Ahmad May 07, 2019 04:16pm
It was Shuaeb who revealed himself in the show and not Nasir. If anything was vulgar it was the host
khan May 07, 2019 04:19pm
Cheap popularity gain by the anchor.
Qaisar May 07, 2019 04:23pm
The host is a jerk of the highest level.
Irfan May 07, 2019 04:45pm
Extremely bad attitude by anchor. He must be removed from hosting
Nasir May 07, 2019 04:48pm
I have the same name as this guy and have seen a couple of his videos - I do not agree with them but bullying from a TV host is NOT acceptable . No doubt the hosts parents gave his a very narrow outlook on life
Fahimuel May 07, 2019 05:29pm
This is a very common phenomenon in Pakistani society, whereby everyone thinks of themselves as righteous and pass judgement against others.
Sameer May 07, 2019 05:50pm
both of these morning show anchors need to go. this isnt their first incident. Previous they harrassed and bullied doctors when doctors requested security at hospitals.
Ali May 07, 2019 06:42pm
If they disliked him so much why did they invite him to their show? Now he must be more popular than before!
RF May 07, 2019 07:40pm
it was THE last time I watched a show of this anchor.
SA May 07, 2019 08:55pm
Cannot believe such people can be allowed to conduct shows, with that kind of etiquette...guys like shueb should be penalised heavily to set an example and to make sure such a thing doesn't ever happen again
Shahid - Denmark May 07, 2019 09:11pm
TV channels are under a lot of economic pressure and are compelled to hire lowly paid, non-professional anchors running their programs. Nasir Jan should have asked this anchor, that what does he make of those hundreds of film scenes where actors are shown in bathrooms wearing towels. And that if he personally doesn't approve of something, should it be the norm of the culture.
N_Saq May 07, 2019 09:27pm
The host does not understand impartiality, therefore, should not be allowed to host a show. The job of the host is to ask questions and let the guest reply. The host can also share his/her own personal view but without emotions and then let the guest reply, so that the people can understand both point of views. Let the people be the judge.
Yogi May 07, 2019 09:30pm
There's a reason why tv hosts are kept away from religious shows. If they can't handle normal interviews, how can they be expected to tackle more complicated and important subjects, such as religion.
ijaz May 07, 2019 10:03pm
He's merely a mirror on the sort of judgemental, intolerant and bigoted society we have become
Shailesh May 07, 2019 10:14pm
The reaction to criticism by anchor best shows his level of intellect. He responds, in response he says silence is his answer to critism. In the show he is asking Me Jan to cope accept criticism but in his own criticism, he is unable to cope with it. While he says he respects and answer criticism with silence , he ends the post by labelling critics as haters (a judge is a judge everywhere no matter what).
Sensible Minds May 07, 2019 11:14pm
Please respect the guest you invite to the show. By showing your disrespect towards Nasir you showed your childish, irresponsible and below standards behavior. Please grow up.
Malik May 07, 2019 11:47pm
It is really pathetic that such anchors are allowed on TV who can humiliate their guests and get away with it. In another program on same channel Qutab on Line harassed a women who chose to go public when her husband shaved her head for refusing to entertain his friends which she used to do previously. Do women have a right to make a choice?. Or Is this the exclusive domain of men. There is a term MCP which is appropriate for such people.
Zak May 08, 2019 12:20am
Not good host. Remove him.
RIZ May 08, 2019 12:28am
This is what happened when individual try to impose his own opinion at public forum. These hosts are not trained neither get educated about live television but as I said if Aamir Liaquat can still continue then others like the anchor will be keep doing their shows. It's up to public to take someone like him on social media and grilled his for his act towards his guest.
Ahmer May 08, 2019 12:37am
Every week, hosts or producers of this Samaa morning show invite people who are a bit controversial. I mean first they invited two Memon brothers who make videos on TikTok, then female anchor humiliated someone (i don't remember. Forgive me if i am wrong), then pranksters whose prank went wrong and now this. May be, they are inviting and humiliating people so to grab cheap fame and attention for their show when we know viewer ship of morning shows is on decline.
Truth May 08, 2019 01:09am
The anchor must be ashamed of his daunting behaviour.
shubs May 08, 2019 01:10am
It is well proven in psychiatry that this sort of behavior is projection of deep rooted insecurities. Like the hyper-aggressive short statured man, or the person with the loudest, most boorish hatred of effeminate or gay men, these kind of people are typically trying to over-compensate for something else. Anyone who is comfortable in his own skin and own personality will not show this kind of behavior. We can look around our own lives and find people who exhibit both these tendencies.
Azeem May 08, 2019 01:38am
this was a khan and have no idea about what the shuaib did, if the guest a political or actor he never even try to do the same
Javed May 08, 2019 03:16am
Shuaeb like all anchors, cares only about his ratings. He could not care less about his guest.
Tahera May 08, 2019 03:30am
This host Mr. Shuaeb is himself behaving in a vulgar manner in the way in which he is conducting the interview. It is a pain to watch and tolerate his manner of interviewing!!!
Mehkan May 08, 2019 03:45am
See what Nasir Khan does with his time and energy is up to him, to each their own. But this does not allow anyone the authority to become opinionated, bully, or harass anyone. I am actually pretty impressed with Nasir how he handles the criticism with so much grace and never once lost his calm. The anchor, the team and the channel should be ashamed of themselves. This guy Shuaeb has the audacity to act unprofessional, and then no remorse to even apologize. What is Samaa's team culture like. If this was done to provoke Nasir, then I am even more disgusted with Samaa and the team and the host. Disappointed and disgusted, Samaa should apologize and remove the host, the host should apologize and do so publically. All eyes are here!
Sabir Pakistani May 08, 2019 05:50am
I am so happy the support for Nasir Khan Jan is poring from everywhere after this incident. The host of this show should apologize for his behavior with Nasir Khan Jan.
Sikan jaan May 08, 2019 06:33am
The producer is equally ignorant or enjoying his tv ratings maybe, but shueb should be fired
sheraz May 08, 2019 07:51am
he don't have anything to say. who are you to judge someone like that and insulting them on a show that is been watch by whole nation. how come the samma tv allow person like him to host a show? i really wonder why
Ahmeda May 08, 2019 08:34am
First nasir should not have been called on the show, if mandate of the show was not established. It seems poor judgement on part of show producer and director. Secondly, host should have avoided to hit personal judgement, it was against the ethics and norms and has gained bad repute for the TV Channel. I suggest, never bring any controversal personality on TV shows, in any manner or so.
Imran Khan May 08, 2019 09:10am
STOP BULLING....Very Simple message to All
Zain ul abdeen May 08, 2019 09:50am
I wonder who made these idiots host of a show, inviting people & insulting them to their face. horrific behavior. this bully should apologize for his behavior. anyone with a square face and a neat beard thinks that they can become TV host & do whatever they want. this needs to stop
Sal May 08, 2019 02:09pm
Who is this guy anchor questioning and being angry based on his understanding of what is moral and what is not Shameful
Samab May 08, 2019 09:40pm
He's definitely jealous of him
Seeret May 09, 2019 02:15am
Shoaib and Kiran, your behaviour as TV hosts was absolutely disgusting, cringe worthy and unacceptable. You both deserve to be fired and never allowed to be on TV ever again.
Pakistani in New Zealand May 09, 2019 02:47am
The host should offer a public apology to the guest.
Laila May 09, 2019 01:11pm
When you hire amateaurs as talk show hosts, what do you expect. Neither Shoaib nor Aftab have any journalistic training or merit. That should be a prerequiste for interviewing people. Generally speaking sometimes even hosts on debate programmes dont know how to separate their professional task from their personal opinions. It becomes a shouting match. HIRE proper journalists wiith experience and an actual CV earned through hard work as talk show hosts. Then we wont see such incompetence and lack of professionalism.
