I find it impossible to jump on to the bandwagon and criticise Lux Style Awards: Ahsan Khan

Ahsan says the courts should be trusted to pass judgement on harassment matters
Updated 26 Apr, 2019

Actor Ahsan Khan has spoken up about the Lux Style Award nomination controversy involving the withdrawal of several nominees in protest of the nomination of an accused sexual harasser.

In an Instagram post, Ahsan has stated, "I find it impossible to jump on to the bandwagon and criticise Lux Style Awards. The platform has always supported our industry. They are the ones who gave me the best actor award when I worked in a play that highlighted the issue of child sexual abuse. They gave me a platform to talk about the lynching of Mashal Khan. And they gave me an opportunity to present a song about the harassment cause."

Talking about the recent actions of LSA's critics, Ahsan said, "It is wrong to make a judgement on our own. It is not anyone's place to do so but the judges. Let us trust our legal system and get off our high horses and stop condemning people based on accusations, conjecture and gossip. We should stop and now."

Ahsan believes that LSA's impartiality is a good thing: "And we should applaud the fact that Lux Style Awards did not take it upon itself to pass judgement on a sub judice matter. Anybody can accuse anyone and without the courts it would be a lawless society."

Not an honest and straight forward person. He should have courage to side, or oppose the bandwagon.

Be brave and join the bandwagon because you are not without the band. Otherwise, people will join you with those against whom the wagon is moving.

Well said, Ahsan. Let the courts pass judgement. Are the courts in the 21st century reality?

Looks like it's more about him getting his two seconds on this matter, than the actual matter.

I find it amazing what these actors say while being living in their bubble and not being at risk of sexual harassment. On one hand, they complain that the Justice System is broken. On the other hand, here we have a case where Ali Zafar has been accused by not 1 but 6 women, Meesha Shafi has withstood character assassination, jokes at her expense, and mockery of the issue of sexual harassment. Ali Zafar has filed a defamation case which means Meesha cannot speak in public about the case. We also have weak laws in Pakistan regarding workplace sexual harassment making it harder to prosecute. In Pakistan & around the world, no one gains anything by accusing someone of harassment, statistically men are more likely to be victims of sexual assault themselves than be falsely accused of it. We should listen and give respect women who come forward with their stories and not make light of it. If someone as privileged as Meesha cannot get Justice, what hope is there for ordinary women?

If you trust our legal system, then you are out of tune with reality. Also because LSA gave you awards and oppotunities you cant criticize them is on you. You have to right to support them and others have the right to criticize them. That doesnt take away from the legal process however flawed and corrupt it is. All will have their day in court.
