Koffee with Karan episode scrapped after controversy erupts over Indian cricketer's sexist remarks

Cricketer Hardik Pandya has been criticised for his demeaning remarks about women
11 Jan, 2019

KJo is known to have candid, and often controversial, conversations on his chat show Koffee With Karan but the latest episode crossed a line.

Featuring Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, the now-deleted episode saw the former pass several demeaning remarks about women when the conversation turned to his love life. Following a backlash, the episode has now being removed from Hotstar, the online platform on which the show is streamed, and Pandya has apologised.

During the episode, Pandya is asked by KJo why he doesn't remember the names of the women he meets at nightclubs, in response to which he says: "I like to watch and observe how they move. I'm little from the Black side so I need to see how they move."

He also shared that he openly identifies the women he sleeps with to his parents: "At a party my parents asked me acha tera wala (women) kaun sa hai (Which are your women)? I said yeh, yeh, yeh (pointing out women) and they were like 'Waah, proud of you beta," Pandya claimed.

Another exchange that drew criticism was when KJo asked, "If you all hit on the same women, then how do you decide?". Rahul answered saying, "up to the woman" while an outspoken Hardik said: "Nahi nahi aisa kuch nahi hai, talent pe hota hai. Jisko mila woh leke jao (Nothing like that, it's about talent, whoever gets them, takes them)".

Pandya has issued a public apology over his remarks but may still face disciplinary action from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

All i see is he is being honest about his actions. It's hypocritical if we accept his actions as his personal choice but find fault with his description of his life.

Shame on Rahul and Hardik. When you are in the public eye you should with decency and proper decorum at all times. The age old cliche "Tumhari apni maa bahen nahin hai kya" applies. Just look at them, they look so ugly, no girl would go with them except they are cricket stars and make a lot of money. Now knowing how these guys think, no woman should go with them or even talk to them.

Karan J whole hosting career is about gossiping, asking private questions and showing westernization as a new cool thing. Can't expect much more outcome.

Ban both of them at least 1 year. This will be lesson learnt for other players. They are using name and fame to shame cricket.

Shocking beyond belief. And he says his parents are proud of him. Nothing could be sadder. They should be banned for at least a year.

One should always bear in mind about his own sister and mother before passing cheap and godforsaken remarks for a woman.
