Vidya Balan is all set to play Indira Gandhi
Vidya Balan's got herself a challenging role to play.
The Bollywood star's latest project will feature her as India's first and to date only female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Based on a book by journalist-author Sagarika Ghose's book Indira: India's Most Powerful Prime Minister, Vidya explained that her next venture may be either a film or a web series.
"I am happy to have acquired the rights to Sagarika Ghose's Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister, because I have always wanted to play Indira Gandhi," said the actor. "I haven’t decided yet whether it should be a film or a web series, but that will take a while anyway."
The author is "most excited" to see Vidya playing the role of Indira on-screen and chose to share news of her book's adaptation with fans and followers on social media.
Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister is a biography of Indira Gandhi and has been published by Juggernaut Books. It explores her political battles, the reasons behind the 1975 Emergency and Gandhi’s failed marriages, among other issues.
