An anti-Gandhi film will be reviving an old studio in India

The studio Bombay Talkies, which released its last film in 1954, is set to release 'Gandhi vs Aazaad'

Talk about cashing in on hype: one of India's oldest and most iconic studios Bombay Talkies is reopening its doors by making a film that is bound to create ripples. This film, titled Gandhi vs Aazaad, will have a decidedly anti-Gandhi stance, reported The Indian Express.

The studio will be relaunched by its founder Rajnarayan Dube's grandson Abhay Kumar who would be making his debut as director with this film that will end the studio's dry spell since 1954. Kumar said that his film will show the ''other side'' of Mahatma Gandhi, which hasn't yet been seen by the world.

“I am all set to revive the studio with an anti-Gandhi film. The world will see the other side of Gandhi which they have not seen yet. I have studied in Bhosala Military School in Nashik, and developed an interest in Partition history. Gandhi got promoted as a hero, but the other true heroes like Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose went unheard,” Abhay explained.

The historical drama will also be featuring him as Chandra Shekhar Azad who was a nationalist and a key member of the freedom struggle. Azad was also played by Aamir Khan in popular film Rang De Basanti.

Speaking about censorship concerns, Abhay said he did not fear censor board: "I have made a true patriotic film and there is no sex or vulgarity in it. Why should I be scared? Our studio will come up with many more films which will be primarily focusing on social subjects." Along with direction, he will also be writing the film.

Baadbaan, a film starring Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar and Dev Anand, was the last film released by Bombay Talkies in 1954.

A little known fact which is often ignored by some biased historians… Gandhi enjoyed very good relations with the Muslim Political Leaders and the Nawabs of Indian Muslim Princely States... Nawabs not only supported him but also supported the ones he recommended for any kind of support… Support was both political as well as of financial nature...

Both were important for our independence. Stop differentiating between those who have us a gift of independent India and Pakistan.

The country will b truly moral once it has realized that the true heroes of freedom struggle were bhagat Singh, azad, bismil, bose and rajguru. Bhagat Singh is the true father of the nation

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. This old adage seems so perfectly crafted for new age fools like this man. It is so trendy to critisize Gandhi especially if one lacks the capacity for serious historical reading/understanding/polemics. What Gandhi stood for requires a deep cerebral capacity which can not be expected of most filmwallahs let alone some non serious man like this one. One can understand his eagerness to revive the name of his grandfather and thus pay his homage to the great man but he would be better off concentrating on subjects he has better command over e.g. usual love, dance and drama stuff .

Gandhi failed to prevent the Partition and then supported the rights of Pakistan, as he thought it was the faults of others that he wanted to correct. For that act of justice to humanity, a Western writer called him “a mortal demi-god”.

At least one excerpt of film must contain Gandhi Jee's friendship with a German wrestler. That is also a most important aspect of his life.

Gandhi is known for his teaching of peace and let it be! No matter what negative side he has he will always be known as the India's father of the nation. Great love and respect for Gandhi, may he rest in peace!

Come on Indians what are you doing with you founder? You are comparing him with azad? If you believe that azad did more for yoir country then instead of compairing him with gandhi, just make films on azad, I started feeling that indians are so innocent they are even not able to recognize the political drama, all of this happening because your BJP wants to end the influence of gandi family, ultimately congress influence.

One of my all time heroes in the Indian Independence Movement who does not get the due recognition in India or in Pakistan is Maulana Azad. Hope someday some courageous seeker of truth will bring this hero to the limelight by making a movie on him. Amir Khan (Maulana's great grand son)- hope you are listening. I am sick and tired of listening about Gandhi.

Only Gandhi had non-violence that he gifted to the world. Bose & Azad were great freedom fighters only.

The film will flop. Indians as well as Pakistani who read history and books, biographies,(more than 100)knows well who was Gandhi,he struggled for 20 years in S.Africa for abolishment of biased laws and quota system, and later he struggled in India for independence, unfortunately power sharing formula could not be finalized between Hindus & Muslims, resulting in two independent nations, and even after independence Gandhi did fast unto death pressing India to pay Pakistan money amounting to Rs 55 crores..He loved Hindus,Muslims,Parsis,Christians,Silks, low castes,everybody..

@Thought It seems you are not aware that Gandhiji, and Indra Gandhi are not related. Perhaps you need to do some reading, before commenting.

Violent revolution only give anarchists & terrorists. Gandhi's non-violence failed to get India freedom, but non-violence inculcated cooperation & democracy. All violent revolution give rise to intolerant dictatorship which leads to chain reaction of similar violent uprisings, example Pakistan.

On the one hand Gandhi, a man who pioneered a method of anti-imperial resistance and anti-oppression activism that has changed the face of activism and has been employed with great effectiveness (and with acknowledgement) by great figures like Martin Luther and Nelson Mandela. On the other, someone like Bose who was willing to collude with Nazi Germany. Sensible people should know which one to support.
