Vidya Balan calls out journalist for fat-shaming her

The actress was visibly stunned by the question posed to her
15 Nov, 2017

Vidya Balan has always been sassy and unapologetically herself.

And she ain't changing that about her for anybody!

The actress, who is gearing up for her upcoming movie, Tumhari Sulu was fat-shamed by a journalist while talking to the media at the Outlook Business Women of Worth Awards 2017... where she was honored for her impeccable contribution in the films, the irony.

In a video posted online, the reporter asks her, “Have you thought of losing weight for glamorous roles or want to continue doing women-centric films?”

The Dirty Picture leading lady who was visibly shocked by the question, managed to keep her composure (more gracefully than we would have been!) and replied: "There’s no connection between women-centric roles and weight loss. I am happy with the work I am currently doing. However, it'd be better if people like you would change their mindsets."

mic drop

Tumhari Sulu which promises to be a "charming slice-of-life family feature" hits cinemas on 17 November.

Very Good Reply. But There is no comparison between Waheeda Rehman & Vidya Balan , She should work very hard and some good quality movies to in the list of successful stylish actress first.

Well done Vidya. The person who posed the question is ignorant and does not have much grey matter in the upper chamber. Continue with your best acting that makes us Indians proud.

Vidya Balan an excellent actress, just like we have Hina Dilpazeer. The figure is something personal, performance count and that's always superb.

@waleed fakhar she is a very good and powerful actor. And Indians love her for that. Her performances in parineeta, ishqiya, kahaani etc are so realistic and beautiful. She is considered as one of the top league actors despite having done very offbeat roles.

@Hadi Vidya can and has played a much wider range of roles than Waheeda. Her face is also much more expressive plus she is one smart lady.

No one will dare to ask the same question to Salman. Also no-one will question Amitabh to put on six pack to keep up with the industry. The fact is that established actors like Vidya or Amitabh or Salman neednot change themselves for the bollywood. Scripts are written for them. And insecure ladies will always play around with plastic surgeries &zero sizes -like Anushka, katrina, sonam ,kareena etc. No one will remember these zero size ladies for their acting but will be glorified for their item numbers ,nepotism and for being part of 200 crore films of khans.

They are no journalists; such people are mere gossip writers, who get paid peanuts for their masala stories. They cannot do better being of low intellect and their inability to analyse; they just go with the flow. Vidya Balan is a superb actress ( a rare commodity in Bollywood films) acting in real roles in films depicting real life scenarios. She is extremely attractive too, for the majority, not that it matters. For a heroin, whose only role is to look pretty, looks shall come into play as it is the only relevant criteria.

@kerala Did you just club salman with legends like Amitabh and Vidya Balan ? you have just made a mockery of the entire argument. Please remember that post 90ies film starts who are dubbed superstar are just circus tigers. Their films wont run if they are not marketed or thrust down the throat of audiences. Monopolising screen times, hiking ticket prices at release, and ensuring they have no other film release when their movies are out, has what has made the likes of salman, shah rukh or hritik super stars. Lets keep this chat only about Vidya Balan, who is a worth successor to legends like Wahida Rehman, Rekha etc.
