Adnan Siddiqui's next is a period drama inspired by an Amrita Pritam novel
A new drama is in the works and it's inspired by a novel by famed Punjabi writer Amrita Pritam.
The drama, titled Gughi, will be a period play set in the years 1946-1947, tells actor/producer Adnan Siddiqui to Images. Siddiqui's Cereal Productions has taken on this ambitious project. The novel has been adapted for the small screen by Amna Mufti and Iqbal Hussain (Seeta Bagri, Nazray Bud) will be directing the drama.
Adnan's co-star Hamza Firdous shared with Images that Gughi is a love story that is disrupted by a kidnapping.
Said Hamza, "Nirmala is a young Hindu woman, who lives a happy, comfortable life with her family. She is betrothed to a kind, wealthy, young man, Taekchand, who is also from a Hindu family. While on an outing, Nimo is suddenly kidnapped by a mysterious man, Rasheed."
Hamza revealed that he will be playing the role of Taekchand.
Hamza added, "There's much more to the drama, but I can't reveal the details just yet. All I can say is that Taekchand’s journey will make you empathise with him, love him and even hate him for his obsession, which I believe is the beauty of the script as it has all the necessary elements."
Apart from Adnan and Hamza, the Gughi cast also includes Asma Abbas, Mohsin Gilani and Rashid Mehmood. Newcomer Amar Khan plays the heroine of this drama. Gughi will run over 26 episodes and will air on TV One. A launch date is yet to be confirmed.
