Mujhay Jeenay Doh will tackle the issue of child marriages
Gohar Rasheed and Hania Amir's latest project on child marriages Mujhay Jeenay Doh is all set for release.
At a press conference on Thursday, the drama's playwright Shahid Nizamani explained the importance of addressing social issues in Pakistan through local dramas.
"We have many serials talking about different taboos, but that doesn't mean our job is done. We don't want to just raise awareness from these serials but want to impact people enough to make a change. The more we keep talking about these issues, the more society will take actions to improve. Our attempt is Mujhay Jeenay Doh."
He added, "With Mujhay Jeenay Doh, we want to point out how our society gets lost in customs and traditions, to the point that many such bad customs are normalised and no one dare speak against it. Wrong traditions can give way to many troubles, and this story is one such instance."
Director Angeline Malik hopes the drama sends a message to everyone. "We may be tackling this sensitive topic but it goes way beyond that. We want to show the importance of consent and how everyone deserves to have consent. We deserve the right to live our lives the way we want to and its about time we start giving people that."
"The experience was overall amazing for me because I was working with such veteran actors. When you work with such talent, your skills also grow to some extent," Gohar Rasheed said of working in the drama.
Mehreen Raheel, on the other hand, was on board when she was told about the project. "When I was approached for this project by Angeline, and she explained my character and how the show talks about child marriages and violence against women, I was on board. It was something that caught my interest."
Raheel worked hard on her comeback. She revealed, "I had to totally get out of who I am. The accent, the look, the body language, I worked on it for two months."
The serial also stars Sarmad Khoosat, Nadia Jamil, Mehreen Raheel and Ali Tahir among others.
Mujhay Jeenay Doh will air on September 11 on Urdu1.
