Armeena Khan stands up for Pakistani female actors, fights against online abuse

The Yalghaar actor couldn't fathom why women would perpetrate this 'poison' against other women.

Criticism is a given in the performing arts world, however online bullying and abuse is not, and Armeena Khan has had enough of it.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, the Yalghaar star put together a collage of abusive comments and asked her followers why 'Pakistani female actresses are subjected to this poison?' in order to better understand the 'Pakistani mentality'.

Armeena couldn't fathom why people would want to be abusive towards entertainers and noticed from the pool of negative comments she received, that "a lot of these are by females. Why is that? Why is it that Pakistani females wish to attack Pakistani actresses in such a vicious manner."

She then highlighted that like the rest of us, our local actresses are also human and don't deserve such abuse and bullying when all they hope to do is entertain their audience.

The actor was open to criticism of her work "in a polite manner, but I won't allow you to question my religion, my morals OR my freedom to choose."

Her post was met with support from fellow Pakistanis who stood by her and thanked her for standing up to the haters.

Surprised by all the love, Armeena shared another post on Instagram and thanked her fans, asking them to "raise your voice like you have done for me today" and fight against bullying.

Armeena is not the only female Pakistani star to face bullying, earlier this year Sana Bucha, Hareem Farooq, Urwa Hocane and Mahira Khan were also subject to online abuse.

More power to these women and all the other local actresses who stand up against bullying and refuse to let the haters get to them!

Your profession has nothing to do with Religion, second all those women who criticize on actress, in-fact they are unable to do so and internally they like you but socially not expose it.. Thanks

yeah a profession whose sole purpose is to entertain audiences, no matter if it requires to show as much skin as possible, be an entertaining object rather than a human being while putting all the honor and dignity aside and yet people abuse after being entertained, what an irony...!

I support everyone's right to live and work as they want as long as it does not cause inconvenience to others. As far as Armeena is concerned she has always been honorable and has made us proud. Those who use foul words are really foul themselves.

Don't pay attention to them, they have nothing else or better to do. Keep up the good work.

At least we should be allowed to choose our destiny, in my opinion, some of us who are unable to make decision for themselves are mostly critical of others.

What a shame? Our society is rottening to the core. We are in such a denial as a society. The standards of morality are only applied to people who want to achieve their dreams with struggle. We don't look around ourselves to correct things but instead choose to throw mud on people of art and skill. We can't see the art in artist but only see vulgarity which is in the eyes of the beholder.

@Wali - Women are human beings who have a choice to work the way they want to. If you find that some of the actresses show too much skin or do vulgar dances, nobody is putting a gun to your head to watch their movies. Its hypocritical & backward of you to watch their movies and then abuse them.

Keep your work up. And I motivate you for your work in future. Keep coming up with your great work. Your work creates better and positive image of Pakistan. Let them speak. They had done nothing for anyone nor for themselves, they rather pulls the successful person down and creates negative image of Pakistan. I will appreciate you if you do something better and progressive for the women in our society.

The likes of samina pirzada, badar Khalil, rohi banu, Khadija ryasat or tahira wasti never had to face any such negative criticism or foul comments. They have been highly respected and considered a gem when it comes to acting. Armeena perhaps you need to analyse what is it that you are doing wrong that attracts such negative behaviour from the public? Perhaps you are at fault here?

@Asad. During the Roohi Bano et al era, there was no social media. Otherwise they may have faced the same negativity.
