Junaid Jamshed's sons join Salman Ahmed for a tribute to the music icon

At Hum Awards 2017, Taimur and Babar Jamshed sang 'Dil Dil Pakistan' in remembrance of their late father
Updated 01 May, 2017

If there was a performance at Hum Awards 2017 that stayed with us after the night was over, it was the moving tribute to the late music icon Junaid Jamshed.

Junaid Jamshed's sons Taimur and Babar joined Salman Ahmed — who was not only once JJ's band member in Vital Signs but also his long-time friend — in remembering JJ's musical side with a medley of Pakistan's patriotic hits.

Salman Ahmed started off the performance with Junoon's 'Azadi' and 'Jazba-e-Junoon', but rounded off the medley with Vital Signs' 'Dil Dil Pakistan'. Watch it here:

JJ's eldest son Taimur prefaced the performance with a brief speech, in which he spoke about his father's love for Pakistan.

He said, "My father loved Pakistan... Until now, I had no idea that he was loved by so many people. The stories I heard about the people he helped to the ones he inspired, I've never been so overwhelmed."

He went on to express commiseration with the families of the other people who lost their lives on the ill-fated flight from Chitral on December 7, 2016, "Anyone who lost someone in that flight, we are in this together... I hope and pray we can come out of this together. Please know that you are not alone."

The performance was an emotional experience for JJ and Vital Signs fans:

Long live Junaid Jamshed. His anthem is the most popular song on the planet and will live for centuries.

@Jamal Junaid Jamshed turned his back on singing and you are expecting his sons to start singing while their father hated it

They wanted 10 minutes of fame and they got it. Now let's all move out of JJ era and his same old same old DDP song.

If your father was there, would he have liked you to be singing to give him a tribute? It would have been better if you would carry on with his mission instead.

Always loved this music and the catchy tunes! Many people with a connexion to Pakistan feel reunited with the country by enjoying these songs. These young men sounded really good and should perhaps consider taking the show on the road. It was truly a delight seeing Pakistani hits being performed live. What a great way to honour Junaid Jamshed, who contributed so much to Pakistan's pop music scene. So uplifting - just what is so desperately needed these days. Dil dil Pakistan!

The tribute would be to follow his footsteps not singing which he abandoned long time a go. He became close close to naat & hamd.

@Umar they are singing but it's a national anthem so I think it is a more cultural thing than religious. Love Pakistan.

Let’s not remember him as a music icon, as his life ends up on a sacred and religious note. I am not asking to call him as a scholar, but his affiliation to the music industry was no more. He tried to wipe out the brain archives, even the caches or his lovers and followers by his doings during his last times, lets maintain that according to his own will.
