Farah Khan doesn't think Bollywood needs Pakistani actors

I would definitely prefer to take somebody from my country for my movies, said the Happy New Year director
09 Oct, 2016

Farah Khan doesn't know what the big fuss about Pakistani actors is.

At a recent event in New Delhi, the Happy New Year director was asked her take on the ban on Pakistani artists and her point of view was clear.

"I think from now on, if you are saying we should not work with them, I say we have enough talent in our country and we should work with people from our country," Farah said.

"What do we don’t have that they have? I think we are far better. So, we would work with our people. I would definitely prefer to take somebody from my country for my movies.”

However, coming to her Bollywood buds Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan's rescue, she said that the ban should not extend to films that have completed production.

Also read: Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar face threat for casting Pakistani actors in their films

“I think there are a handful people, not even handful but may be two people we are talking about. They are not important in the scheme of things. When they did those movies, it wasn’t illegal to have Pakistani actors working in Indian movies. The movies were shot at considerable expense and hard work, I don’t think it is fair to ban those movies."

Farah khan is right, but unfortunately the film makers in India are superstitious ,and they believe their film could flop if they do not include a Pak actor, actress,or atleast a Pak singer. And fortunately Pak celebrities are earning fortunes by their good luck.

There should always be a difference between the thinking pattern of an artist and a politician. I wish she could see the larger picture. Or probably she is not an artist and just an entrepreneur, with commercial interests as prime driving force. This is a tragedy!

Indian films should not be allowed to be released in Pakistan. Pakistani authorities should enforce a strict embargo to that effect. Any change in this policy should only come when Indian authorities allow Pakistani films to be screened in cinemas in that country.

Art, sports and medical services do not have any borders. When u say that u do not need any foreigners in Bollywood and your actors also do not need to go any foreign country; it looks that u do not belong to an open minded society. Frankly, still it is not clear who did this URI attack and the Surgical Operation. Many people do not agree with the government version so why u r forcing the Pakistani actors to condemn something which many Indians also not agreeing to it.

Indians first invite Pak actors them now insult them. They are not responsible for Uri. They are actors not politicans. Biggest Democracy is taking away freedom of speech. Yet Indians are towing the line of a party linked to Gujrat riots. Babbari Mosque etc. Why is no Indian Media or Indians talking about there Jawans shooting pellets at innocent Kashmiris? Why are so many Indians commenting on Pak news (Dawn)? You can take your hate, spite and racism and keep burning with it.

Why did Hollywood feature Priyanka, Deepika? Or even Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan? Does Hollywood not have enough talent too? Did it run out of actors? Talent and artists have no borders. It is downright disappointing that despite being an artist Ms Farah does not realise this. Fawad, Mahira, Atif and whoever else are working in India right now are there because they were loved. By Indian audiences. For their talent. They are working there because they deserve it, because they were invited, because they do offer something new as individuals, not as Pakistanis. They are unique just as every artist is. And banning them in the name of 'patriotism' is downright foolish.

So she supports banning Pakistani artists because of the political situation? So then what does she think about people from other countries watching Hindi movies? Shouldn't each country just be limited to their own art and artists? And why stop at just art and artists? Let's extend the ban to businessmen, students, traders and just ordinary travelers. Rather than using art and inter people contacts to diffuse the political tensions, she wants to be part of the problem. Shame on her!

Will she stand by her philosophy when it comes to Indian Artists sign contracts with Hollywood or elsewhere! Secondly, Film Artists do not force the industry to assign them a role in their future projects. The directors and or producers take various factors into consideration, and the primary one is economical, compared to the ones having already gained name and fame. Subsequently, the Film Artists have to go through various tests and trials. Thirdly, it is the contractual agreement between Film Makers and the Film Artist, that forms bases of for the Government to grant necessary visa to stay and work in a given country. Last but not the least, Indian Film Industry is of the opinion that, exchange of Arts and Artist between the two country can help bridge the gap as a confidence building measure and bring people of the two countries more closer. Ms. Farah Khan, please correct me if I am wrong in my analysis.

If it is true, then why collaborate with any other countries. Sometimes local talent itself isn't enough. I think if Bollywood thinks of itself as a global phenomenon, then it should have its doors open for everyone to grow further. Either ways, its not the right time to voice their opinions against the mob or crowd. Perhaps the peace will prevail.
