How I got my brows to look like Deepika Padukone's

How I got my brows to look like Deepika Padukone's

Because her brow game is strong, am I right? Spoiler alert: if you want to do the same, it's going to take patience...

Given the general obsession with thicker eyebrows lately, we all want Deepika’s brows.

After all, she sports the most symmetrical, thick, strong and best of all, natural looking eyebrows in B-town.

Eyebrows can really transform the way you look by instantly lifting your face and opening up your eyes. See for yourself, what a difference eyebrows make!

Gone are the days of skinny brows (like on the left)

On the left is Deepika with her thin and natural eyebrows whereas on the right, she’s with her thicker and fuller, perfectly groomed bold eyebrows, taking away few years and adding freshness to her face.

I thought, if Deepika's brows can look so great, why can't mine? And so began my journey to perfect brows.

After weeks of patience, I think I did pretty good!

Here are some tips to help make the most of yours:

1) Grow it out

For a few weeks, leave your eyebrows alone.

I did not pluck, tweeze or wax my eyebrows for about six weeks.

2) Go to a professional

Go to a salon professional or an eyebrow artist to get them shaped. I got mine done at Bina Khan’s for Rs. 220. They really know how to frame your eyes by creating the perfect brow shape. But do let them know that you want to make them look thicker and fuller so they can leave some strays, if necessary.

This is how my eyebrows looked after the amazing Farah groomed them but all other girls are equally good there. She used scissors, tweezers and thread to shape my eyebrows.

3) Maintain the gap

Ask the eyebrow artist to maintain a gap between your eyebrows if you want nice, fuller brows and not a unibrow like Kajol’s.

4) Measure it

Without analyzing your shape, you won’t be able to achieve symmetrical looking eyebrows.

Always remember: Eyebrows are sisters, not twins; therefore you will need makeup to make them look even!

For that you will need to follow these steps: Place the brush from the outside of your nose, to see where your eyebrow should naturally start. To find your arch, take your brush and lay it diagonally from your nostril to the outside edge of your iris.

The end of the brow point should be on a 45 degree angle from the outside of your eye

5) Throw some shade

The goal is to have even, fuller brows and avoid overfilling or making end points too harsh. Never choose a shade that matches your brow hair, choose to go a bit lighter always!

So if you have black eyebrows, use taupe or dark brown shadow (you can use any matte eyeshadow). I used MAC espresso powder shadow.

Take a brow brush or an angled eyeshadow brush (I used MUD 210 angled brush) and fill it in using small light strokes, one over the other, just the way your eyebrow hair looks. I, personally prefer powder because the result is much softer but if you choose to use pencil, go for one that’s powdery in texture and not waxy.

6) Brush it out

Brush through brows to blend out the color and soften any harsh lines. I used Tweezermans’ Spoolie brush to make it look more natural.

7) Brighten your brow bone

Clean up your brows using a concealer or highlighter with a concealer brush. I used MUD (makeup designory) concealer but you can also use any white pencil if that’s available.

Go underneath and above the eyebrow, getting as close as you can to the edges, and then blend thoroughly with the concealer brush or a cotton bud. This will make the edges appear sharp and clean.

8) Seal it (optional)

Set your work with a brow gel or brown/clear mascara to keep everything in place.

If you don’t have a brow gel or a clear mascara; you can spray some hair spray on your spoolie brush and use that!

Now that you've got the brows, here's how you should maintain it. Pluck and trim them after every two to three days.

Get your hands on a pair of good quality tweezers, scissors, a spoolie brush, angled brush and brown eye shadow so you don't have to run to the professionals twice a week and can do this at home.

Thats an interesting journey :) I know the drag brow has got people using a concealer to "clean up" the brow but do buff it out with a fulffy brush because I can see where it hits the crease in a line. Also, since you have close set eyes, putting a highlighting concealer in the space between your brows and your inner corner will help balance them out more. You have lovely eyes :)
