Won't talk about Bangladesh attacks, says SRK

The Bolly superstar says that his previous statements have been blown out of proportion
11 Jul, 2016

His previous statement on intolerance in India sparked off a controversy and ruined his birthday, so Shah Rukh Khan has chosen to stay quiet about the Eid attacks in Bangladesh, reports Deccan Chronicle.

Talking to the press in Mumbai recently, he said, "Last year media asked me something simple on my birthday and it became an issue. I did not enjoy my birthday and I hold that against everyone."

"Maine kuch aachi, sharif baat ki thi..koi religious galat baat nahi ki thi (I had said something good and not anything wrong). I was telling things to the young people," he added.

"Don't ask me anything as I don't want to spoil my Eid as one doesn't know how it will be taken ahead," he concluded.

The Raees actor clarified that his job is to do good work and make his country proud. "I wish for my country to be peaceful, educative, happy and healthy. One should make the country proud through their work. As an actor, I try to do good work so that there is a name of our country."

"Same way astronauts, bureaucrats, policemen, businessmen etc should work hard in their respective fields that each one of us takes our country forward. So, that's my wish," he added.

Media guys are waiting like hounds to make a mountain out of a mole hill. It gives them TRPs. These days any one in public life is afraid to say anything. Then there are unknown starlets who can say anything to get one minute in front of camera and be seen on national TV and newspapers. Almost all media personnel are like that these days and especially in South asia.

At last the arrogant star realised it does not pay to make anti national statements in India. He had a bad year 2016 and lost much of his popularity by making stupid statements. seems to be learning from it.

Celebrities like Sah Rukh Khan have large following. They latch up to every word spoken by him. So he should also condemn terrorist attacks. One sided criticism is always frowned upon. He was quick to criticize one small incident but he keeps mum regarding much bigger and horrific incidents. Not fair.

Even if he doesn't say anything they will still translate that into something negative and controversial

He is doubly careful when he is required to comment on a terrorist act. That is the kind of fear terrorism is imposing. Rest is an excuse. What is Eid celebration when you are not one with the families of bereaved? Their celebration is snatched away.

It's not imperative for SRK to speak on this issue. However, if he aired his views during the farcical 'intolerance' debate, people will demand now. It's well known with which political party his allegiance lie. So, to be selective in airing views is uncalled for.

One of one our more well-informed and articulate actors cornered and brow-beaten by headline-hungry gossip mills (Calling them journalists does journalism a disservice) and Hindutva elements into pleading silence...It's a shame because the moment you crush an opinion simply because you disagree with it, you push democracy a step back. And history has shown us how dangerous a trend that is.

Shahrukh... your comment on Intolerance was a different issue altogether. You are a successful star in tolerant India. In this case, it requires to only condemn killing of innocents by misguided youths... We cannot understand how you relate it or it is simply an alibi not to comment ...

Such a shallow stardom. He does not have guts to condemn a terrorist attack. Those life lost in BD attack were not his relatives, but surely they were his fans and cheered for him on screen. SAD.
