Will Vidya Balan get back to her groove in her next project?

The Bollywood actor is set to play a brothel madam in Begum Jaan, director Srijit Mukherjee's Hindi remake of a Bengali Partition tale, Raj Kahini.

The film, produced by Mahesh Bhatt, will highlight the repercussions of the Partition on a brothel's women who were displaced after the border was drawn. The original Begum Jaan was played by renowned actor Rituparno Sengupta.

The director has announced that he will begin the shoot in June.

“We are on the way to remake the ‘Rajkahini’ that deals with the aftermath of Partition in Bengal. It has been titled ‘Begum Jaan’ and Vidya Balan is playing the role of Begum Jaan. The shooting will begin from June 10,” said Mukherjee at a film screening, reports Indian Express.

“For Bengal and Punjab, the partition is a heart-breaking saga. I wish more movies should be made on this topic,” added the National award-winning director.

@asgher - It is all about money. The public wants to see exotic movies and they deliver. See, today's youngsters are more influenced by the western world and their lifestyles, which are continuous source to them through internet. That's why I don't watch too many Bollywood movies. You are right that the old era family movies are now a distant memory !!!

Please not another movie about partition. Times have changed, the three countries are content in their own trajectories. And everyone has moved on. This subject is too boring.

You might like to see a Punjabi movie "Lakeer", based on the 1947 Partition of Kashmir. It revolves around my birth place Mirpur (Pakistan Administered Kashmir) and Indian Administered Kashmir. It shows brotherly love amongst Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs of Mirpur and then holocaust of 1947 as described in my book " Forgotten Atrocities: Memoirs of a Survivor of the 1947 Partition of India". Partition movies and books are lessons in our history. Bal K. Gupta, USA
