Ick, he's back: 'Mauka' man Skypes with Afridi in new ad

Updated 16 Mar, 2016

Aaaand he's back. The Mauka man, aka the character created by Star Sports for their World Twenty20 advert last year, has returned in a sequel commercial, and this time he's Skyping with Afridi.

The ad is based on India's four-time winning streak against Pakistan in the World Twenty20 series and features a man who appears to have grown up waiting for Pakistan to win so he can put his box full of fireworks to good use.

In the sequel ad, the man talks to 'Shahid bhai' over Skype, and entreats him to show India how to hit a sixer. Star Sports, however, is hopeful for a fifth win. Watch the full ad below:

The ad provoked a reaction out of cricket fans from both Pakistan and India:

Some choose to focus on other statistics:

Others admitted they weren't amused:

A few had stronger words for the ad:

One Twitter user was particularly miffed by the phonetic goof-up:

But we liked what the response from TV chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who acknowledged that we never know what may happen:

Here's to a thrilling match on March 19!

After the humiliating defeat of India in the first match it seems "Muaka Ad" this time is taking its last breath . The fate of this Ad is one match away may be some people could not be able to chant "Mauka Mauka" ever.

Guys, why do we always have to take it to our hearts? Calm down. Who knows this match may be Pakistan's. Take the humour as it is. Over patriotism isn't always good. Though I've not seen this ad on the star sports, yet.

Relax guys, its supposed to be funny. I'm amazed how people take this so personally. Cricket is just a game and not a war. Just because one team wins and the other loses doesn't mean that one country is better than the other. Sit back and enjoy the show set to take place on Saturday!

At the end it's an ad. As long as people see it the TV TRPs stand to gain. Yes, there's humour in it and based on facts. Best way for the Pakistani team to break it is win it this time :-)

@Moderate Voice yes, it is just a game but ads like these seem to reflect that it's more about bitter rivalries. Such ads don't show anything about actual passion for cricket, nor do they uphold the reputation of cricket as a 'gentleman's game'. The irony here is heavy considering India's defeat against NZ.

Commm'on.... Take it on the chin.. Do not mention newzeland .... If possible beat them a world cup game then make an ad of your own answering the same .... That will be befitting reply....

The ad was originally created for ODI World Cup, not World T20!

It is a brilliant ad indeed. They may wanna dig deeper and get their Urdu and Pakistan culture correct. It is mauQa not mauKa. And we don't eat in a thali, we use plates.

Indians lost to kiwis, only thing that Pakistan can celebrate. I will never celebrate any loss of India till the time they loose from Pakistan. Pakistanis please be brave. Don't celebrate other teams victories over India.

People are chanting that india lost all their T20 games against NZ, but we don't have any cricket rivalaries against NZ. It all about India vs Pak Thats the bottom line. Pak never won against india and never will.

It remains to be seen if India manages to beat NZ in any T20 before pak manages to beat India in a WC T20.
