Sapphire's first anniversary sale causes a frenzy...and a catfight

With 50% off on the retailer's entire stock, shoppers fight to get that coveted last item
Updated 11 Nov, 2017

When pret retailer Sapphire announced a flat 50%-off sale in honour of their first year anniversary, women were understandably excited.

Sapphire hosts a range of products which includes stitched day wear and unstitched printed fabric for women, scarves, jewellery, among other things.

Come Friday, hordes of women descended on the outlets in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.

In Lahore, people were waiting outside the store hours before the doors opened.

If history is any indication, we should have expected a scuffle to break out, keeping Sana Safinaz lawn exhibitions and the recent Balmain x H&M collection launch in mind.

A video surfaced soon after of a group of shoppers at the Lahore flagship store shoving and yelling at each other, until security intervenes.

Lesson learnt: don't come between a lawn queen and that last medium-sized on sale kurti.

Women who are not big on shopping or were stuck at work and couldn't make it to the sale in time are now thanking their lucky stars.

Before Karachites start gloating, it's looking like the calm before the storm at Dolmen Mall too.

In fact, the store in Karachi is much smaller so the scenario is going to be much worse. —Photo courtesy: Lobot (Twitter)

We know it's hard to resist such a bargain but remember to stay safe, people!

Pakistan is a strange country. On one hand, people are dying because of poverty, on the other side, people are fighting over expensive clothes.......

@Hassan. The problem with your 'argument' is that those 'people' that are dying because of poverty belong to the Lower Class, and the people fighting over expensive clothes belong to the Middle and Upper Class. They're not the same set of people, hence there is nothing strange about it. Your argument would've only made sense if somehow extremely poor people, suffering from malnutrition were fighting over expensive clothes which is not the case. Everyone is entitled to do as they please.

What a sad and sorry state of affairs at the sale! It is just not worth it. I can happily spend another year in last season's lawn, cotton, linen, etc.. I hate shopping too, and shop only if I absolutely have to, which means never during sale time. Now this poor lady has become a laughing stock everywhere. Will this type of judgement on social media bring out the best in us or the worst?
