Instagram just got weirder because your followers can now see reels you’ve liked

There's also a new map option, as well as the ability to repost content.

If you were around during the initial days of Instagram, you’ll remember that there was a time when you could see everything the people you followed liked or commented on. Instagram just brought back that feature and we hate it.

The social media platform just rolled out a new update — a new Friends tab in the reels section, the option to repost content, and a very troublesome map that allows your followers to see where you are in real time.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the news in a video — as he often does — and said it was to allow users to connect with the people they care about most. His theory is that people would rather see what the people they follow have liked than view their own algorithm that often features content from people they don’t know.

So for everyone liking those risky Instagram reels, your entire followers’ list is now able to see what you’re liking. Even if you aren’t, you likely don’t want all your followers to be able to see everything you’re liking.

He said the map was an opt-in option that allows users to share their location with their close friends list or a custom list of followers and allows them to see location-based content. Basically just like Snapchat.

People online aren’t sure how they feel about this update. The map is quite a hard no for many users, given the possible safety implications of letting your followers know where you are at any given time.

They’re also not too pleased with the repost option and friends reels tab either.

One very helpful user shared how to turn the option off.

Overall, a lot of people aren’t too happy with the idea of these recycled ideas. Reposts from X, the map from Snapchat and the friends tab from the depths of hell. What are your opinions on the new updates?

The 'movers and shakers' of these social media platforms can do whatever they want as per their old or new policies, rules and regulations, which the helpless, feeble, weak, trifle and hapless subscribers have no other option but to follow as a mandatory requirement.

Congratulations to all stalkers, I guess. Life has been made easier for them.

Many people don't understand that social media is a public space. Everything you do on it is visible by someone or other and can be linked back to you, so when taking any action just ask yourself if you would take that same action in a real-life setting. E.g. if you're liking a post, would you also be comfortable declaring that you like it to the people around you. This approach helps avoid unnecessary stress and panic about who can see what.

Exactly why I never much cared for Social Media for such pitfalls. Besides additive nature of these apps, lack of privacy and sheer waste of valuable time, why would anyone wants to advertise to the rest of the world, where they ate lunch and which public toilet they went to unload it??

We strongly condemn it, and from on we are going to delete our Instagram accounts.

@Falcon1 I also made a conscious decision not to have social media. It's fast becoming the downfall of society. Also it never appealed to me. I like my privacy. It has made the world more voyeuristic, vapid, vacuous, idle, self-absorbed, attention hungry and narcissistic. People apparently can't survive without it. Selfies everywhere. Thankfully, I wear niqab.
