Who would have thought that a Halloween costume as common as Catwoman would get somebody in trouble?

But such is the hard luck that recently befell our beloved actress Mahira Khan.

At Nabila's Halloween party, the svelte leading lady went as Catwoman, and posed for a picture with Asim Raza, the director of her upcoming film Ho Mann Jahaan.

Now, Asim was geared up in Shiv Sena's signature saffron and even sported a placard that said 'Mahira ko bahir nikalo!'

While Asim's costume was just a timely, tongue-in-cheek jibe at Shiv Sena, whose recent threats against Mahira and Fawad Khan have caused much furore, many people across the border construed Mahira's joint picture with Asim as a political statement.

The actress thus decided to clear the air with a series of tweets:

Mahira Khan's debut Bollywood film Raees, in which she stars opposite Shah Rukh Khan, will be out in 2016.

Mahira do not have any idea of what Shiv sena is and how much strong they are politically in Maharashtra. When she is not a politician, it would be better for her to focus on her work and do not get in to political statements. Though there may be political statements during election times, normally shiv sena do not businesses. If shivsena really opposes, no pakistani can even enter India. Hence it is better for Mahira to stay away from politics and simply focus on her work when she is in India.

There is absolutely nothing to apologize for Mahira. Even if it was intentional, it was bulls-eye.

Dear Mahira , With this you have ensured a high profile protest against your film with SRK. This Halloween will cost nothing less than 10 million dollars in India itself. Good Luck

Mahira has ensured that her film will either not release in India, or bomb at the box office.

Shiv sena is a political party with centerist ideology. They do not kill people like the terror organization. They just threaten or disrupt public life. We are taking them too much seriously. We even do not dare to speak against our political parties.

She should just stick to her work if she wants to be successful. Raking political controversy is nail in her career coffin. Especially with Shiv Sena and RSS. All producers, directors touch feet of these politicians so survive in Mumbai.

She is essentially a businesswoman keen to earn money. She can also act but has no political, religious, or cultural affiliations. So let her be. As long as such people do not become role models for the youngsters of our nation I personally do not care how she projects herself. She might as well be a part of Hefner empire. It is her choice.

In an ideal world this would not have mattered. But in this one it most probably will. She has every right to protest. However, it would have been wise for her to have stayed out of this. You can't do this and the same time say that creative people are not interested in politics, that too of other nations. And to make things even more difficult, the other guy is dressed as Bal Thackeray himself. She has just provided more ammunition to Shiv Sena to shout about. Hope this does not make matter worse.

While agreeing that artists as creative people should have the freedom to express themselves freely, they should also have the sense to realise what can and cannot give offence. being offensive is not the aim of art and artists. Mahira Khan should have known that she will be giving offense to some posing with someone dressed in saffron.

@Rashid Sultan You are living in denial. Whether Mahira Khan likes to identify herself as a Pakistani or as a free spirit artist, the fact of today is that Shiv Sena have attacked them because they are Pakistanis, so you need to check your definition of what nationalism is. For me, nationalism is patriotism and you don't have any right to dictate or enforce your own version of nationalism on someone else, maybe that works in India which I suspect you are that is an indian, but Pakistanis are different.

@ahmed hussain I beg to differ with you, there is indeed shortage of opportunities for an artist who wants to pursue Indian culture and their entertainment, but my mind is open enough to see that there are plenty of opportunities for someone who wants to promote Pakistani culture and entertainment. There is a great difference between two if you wish to realize that which I fear you don't

@tellmore This is a reply to somebody's comment below... Mahira never made a political statement. In fact since the time SS has imposed such a ban she never spoke a word about it until this picture came out, which was also taken without any kind of political intentions. Nw that the picture went viral she apologised as that was never her intention.
