Glam squad: 8 Pakistani celebs who rocked the red carpet this summer
The revival of the Pakistani cinema has brought with it lots of movie premieres and promotions and you know what that means? They're rolling out the red carpets!
Whether it's the carpet leading to the cinema or the one laid out at award shows, we all know it's where the real drama lies. Daring midriff baring tops, edgy culottes and backless gowns are frequently spotted — our starlets are definitely evolving with time and the men, too, are looking more dapper than ever!
Here are the eight celebs that have been catching my eye:
1) Ayesha Omar
In recent months, Ayesha Omar has become the IT girl of Pakistani fashion. Often seen clad in Shehla Chatoor and Tena Durrani ensembles, Ayesha normally keeps her make-up and hair minimal and lets her accessories and ensembles do the talking. Plus, we love that she dares to bare a little skin; Ayesha's the sultry girl next door.
Our favourites: Her polka dot peplum LBD, Shehla Chatoor flared pants paired with a crop top and this Ali Xeeshan banarsi pencil skirt
2) Mahira Khan
Possibly the biggest actress in the industry right now, Mahira Khan has managed to keep her feet firmly on the ground in every way possible; even her style is a reflection of that! Rumour has it, she even does her own make-up most of the time!
The Humsafar leading lady usually wears simple pieces that accentuate her slender frame; she looks like the poster daughter-in-law as she keeps it modest and elegant.
Our favourites: These emerald Feeha Jamshed green separates, a hot pink Elan midi skirt with a casual t-shirt and a Muse Luxe dress with a cinched Outhouse belt.
3) Humaima Malick
Like Humaima's grown as an artist over time, her fashion sensibility has also changed drastically. In recent weeks, her wardrobe choices for Dekh Magar Pyaar Say promotions have been immaculate and showcase that she isn't afraid to step out of her comfort zone and try new things.
Though I have to say, I'm not a big fan of the blue contact lenses she wears. i feel she could do without them and still look smashing!
Our favourites: When she looked like a vintage pin-up doll in this Elan ball dress, this Mahgul embellished cropped top and asymmetrical skirt and this black embroidered Elan evening gown that fit like a glove
4) Fawad Khan
He didn't become the most wanted man in Pakistan and India just like that! Fawad really changed things up in terms of style when he appeared in Khoobsurat; he looked like a modern day Prince Charming and he's carried that look off-screen with him!
Well-tailored suits, silk pocket squares and polished loafers are all part of the look. Khan keeps the silhouette slim and takes risks by matching unusual pieces together without going over the top. Is there anything this man can't do?
Our favourites: A perfect for brunch look at a Giovani event, looking 50 shades of dapper in this grey suit; basically any time Khan steps out of the house, his outfit is on point!
5) Amna Ilyas
An unexpected name on the list but in my opinion, Amna Ilyas is one of the most underrated fashion models. Not only does this girl have the best figure in the fraternity but she also knows exactly how to dress to play to her strengths.
She's a big fan of white so paired with her dusky complexion and her bold brows, that's a match made in heaven! She keeps her clothing very clean and chic, opting for one or two statement pieces to do the talking.
Our favourites: This ivory Nomi Ansari sari with a Rema Luxe clutch, a no fuss blazer and skinny jeans combo with hip Michael Kors heels and these Shehla Chatoor silk culottes with a white button down.
6) Meesha Shafi
There's no doubt about the fact that Meesha Shafi is the rebellious girl of the fashion scene; no one rocks short hair and tattoos better than Shafi and her looks always consist of off-beat pieces paired together, which end up looking cohesive on her!
She has the most distinct style out of everyone else on the list and isn't afraid to mix designer with high-street labels. Plus, she has the best accessories around, hands down!
Our favourites: In this sheer Ali Xeeshan jacket accessorized with an ethnic Farah Talib Aziz clutch, when she wore this chunky Outhouse earcuff (I don't even care about the rest of the outfit!) and in this Elan floor length dress coupled with a Mahgul birdcage bag
7) Sikander Rizvi
Whether he can act or not is still a little up in the air (though his performance in DMPS has been praised for the most part), one thing we do know for sure about this new entrant into the industry is that he knows what to wear!
Any Karachiite who dines out at his eatery Xanders can attest to that -- he's always been a well-dressed man and he's only upped his game ever since he decided to step into the entertainment circle. He cleans up well but he's not afraid to be laidback and just wear a nice shirt and jeans once in a while. No wonder Ayesha Omar can't stop showing him off as arm candy!
Our favourites: This navy blue HSY suit with a spunky tie, this open collar look, also by HSY and this grey jacket paired with a white tee and denim
8) Ali Zafar
One of our first stars to make it big across the border, Zafar has not let it get to his head and stayed true to his style aesthetic -- He's often see wearing tees with some flashy bling or a slim fit button down.
The singer turned actor experiments with some school boy pieces but also keeps it classy with his vast collection of well-stitched suits. He's kept us guessing and it's yet another reason why we love him!
Our favourites: When he made tweed look hot at an award show in Delhi, gave suspenders a twist before a fashion show in London and threw leather into the mix for some edge.
