Jemima Khan’s film What’s Love Got to Do With It? wins big at Rome Film Festival, bags Best Comedy award

After its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Jemima Khan’s What’s Love Got to Do With It? has bagged yet another achievement — an award for Best Comedy at the Rome Film Festival.

Sharing photos from the red carpet on Instagram, Khan, the film’s writer and co-producer, shared the big news on Sunday and wrote, “We won Best Comedy at The Rome Film Festival for our film which I wrote and produced What’s Love Got To Do With It? Thank you Ol Parker for teaching me how to write a script.”

She also thanked the cast, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Asim Chaudhry, Shahzad Latif, Jeff Mirza, Shabana Azmi, Sajal Aly, Ben Ashenden of the pin comedy, Mim Shaikh, Iman Boujelouah and Sindhu Vee for all the laughs.

Then came a shoutout for the crew behind the film starting with Lucas Webb, executive producer, producer Nicky Kentish Barnes, executive producers Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin, Studio Canal and Eric Fellner of Working Title films.

Khan also thanked the film’s director Shekhar Kapur and studio Lucky Red for distribution. As for her power suit at the film festival — an ivory matching pant suit with a sleeveless vest — she thanked Bella Freud for it. “And Emma Hawkins for being my plus one forever and for taking these snaps,” Khan concluded.

What’s Love Got to Do With It? is a cross-cultural British rom-com follows a filmmaker Zoe (James) and juxtaposes her journey to love (swiping on dating apps and bad dates) with that of her close friend Kazim’s (Latif) who decides to opt for an arranged marriage with Maymouna (Aly).

The film is set to release in theatres on January 27, 2023.
