Abrar ul Haq, Kanwal Khoosat and Shehzad Ghias Shaikh pledge proceeds from their shows to flood affectees

Torrential rain and flooding has displaced millions across the country and claimed hundreds of lives, prompting the government to declare an emergency. Several celebrities have been raising their voices to collect funds and use their platforms to share authentic organisations for donations. Others are opening their pockets to donate personally. Singer Abrar ul Haq, director Kanwal Khoosat and comedian Shehzad Ghias Shaikh have announced that they will donate the proceeds from their upcoming public events — a concert, theatre play and comedy show — to flood relief efforts.

If you want to donate, here is a list of organisations accepting donations and working to aid people affected by the floods.

Khoosat, the co-producer of NAPA’s latest play Both Sit In Silence For A While starring Ali Junejo and Rasti Farooq of Joyland, shared on Thursday that proceeds from their special show on August 28 “will go to the Balochistan and Sindh flood relief efforts.”

The ticket price is Rs1,500 and tickets can be purchased via Ticketwala.

Comedian Shehzad Ghias Shaikh took to Twitter and shared that his show on Monday would see 100 per cent of the ticket sales going to the Balochistan relief fund. The price of the ticket is Rs750 and the show features a lineup of stand up comedians. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketwala.

‘Billo’ singer Haq, who is also chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, tweeted that he will be donating the proceeds from his concert this month to people affected by the floods and urged people to step up and help.

Other celebrities are trying to spread awareness about the need for donations. Singer Hadiqa Kiani’s Vaseela campaign is collecting funds and donations designated to help people affected by the floods in different regions, starting with Balochistan. She has requested the people of Pakistan “to step forward and help our Baloch people who are shelter-less and going through the most painful time of their lives. Together we can face it and help in these catastrophic times.”
