Ranbir Kapoor draws flak online for weight shaming his pregnant wife Alia Bhatt

Bollywood’s Ranbir Kapoor has landed himself in hot water with a comment about his wife’s pregnancy body that has irked people on Instagram. Kapoor and his actor wife Alia Bhatt had gone live on a social media portal to promote their upcoming film Brahmastra when people asked Bhatt about how they plan on promoting the film, to which the Gangubai Kathiawadi star responded they haven’t “phailoed [spread]” the film. Kapoor chimed in pointing at her pregnant belly and said someone had phailoed instead.

Shared on Thursday, the video has been doing the rounds on social media. In the video, Ayan Mukerji, the director of Brahmastra, was also seen seated next to the main stars. Bhatt announced her pregnancy at the end of June.

Her husband’s comment wasn’t taken lightly by those who tuned into the live session. Though Kapoor patted Bhatt’s back and said “in a very cute way”, social media users didn’t find it cute at all.

Fan accounts that posted the video on Instagram, leading to a lot of backlash for the actor.

In the comment section a lot of the people expressed their concern. For some, it was “sad to watch”. One user wrote that it wasn’t funny at all.

Another brought Kapoor’s age into the discussion and said he is a “40-year-old man child with no common sense.” Another one pointed how this was a major red flag.

This user said that no one should ever say a word to a pregnant lady about her weight, not even as a joke, because she is already feeling insecure about it. Another pointed at his behaviour being a red flag and requested him to be a gentleman. “How mean? Not funny at all,” wrote another.

Bhatt and Kapoor got married in April at their home in Mumbai, India. They recently unveiled the second song from their upcoming film ‘Dance Ka Bhoot’. the much awaited film will hit the theatres on September 9 and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and others in pivotal roles.
