Represent! Iman Vellani wears Pakistani brand Rastah in Ms. Marvel finale
If all the desi references in Ms. Marvel weren’t enough, we’ve got even more desi representation in the form of fashion. The superhero wore a shirt by Pakistani brand, Rastah — its Pink Eyes Can’t See patch t-shirt — in the season finale.
The artwork designer, Inzer, shared clips from the episode and wrote that she “jumped out” of her seat when she saw the shirt.
“Her shirt that took me back to the pandemic, working in my home studio in Lahore, on the call with Zain Ahmad thinking of ways to transfer watercolor artworks to textiles. This means a lot to me, knowing that I was a part of Kamala Khan’s story in the tiniest way possible.” She also praised Ms. Marvel and called it an “amazing show” for doing justice with the representation we all wanted but never saw.
“I was little bummed out putting it on today knowing it’s the last episode but what a way to end it (well at least for me ) Does that mean I’m part of the MCU?” she questioned. We think so!
The brand also shared Instagram stories by the artwork designer.
This is the second recent international feature for the brand as in June, Bollywood’s Anil Kapoor was seen wearing a denim jacket by the brand in his latest film JugJugg Jeeyo. As per the co-founder of Rastah, before Anil, his son Harshvardhan also wore a piece from the brand for a Netflix project.
Disney+ show Ms. Marvel came to an end on July 13. It’s story is based on Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani, a 16-year-old Pakistani-American teenager who lives in Jersey City. She is an aspiring artist, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe. She is also a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world — that is until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.
The cast includes Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Mohan Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Nimra Bucha, Mehwish Hayat, Samina Ahmed, Zenobia Shroff, Yasmeen Fletcher, Travina Springer, Laurel Marsden, Laith Nakli, Azhra Usman and Fawad Khan.
The show is currently being screened exclusively in theatres across Pakistan. It’s last two episodes will premiere this Friday (July 15).
