The trailer for Ms Marvel is finally out — and it was definitely worth the wait
Marvel fans, boy do we have news for you. The trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Ms Marvel — the first series featuring a Pakistani-American superhero — has finally been released and it is a joy to watch. The show will start streaming on Disney+ from June 8.
The trailer was released on March 15 and shows glimpses of actor Iman Vellani playing 16-year-old Kamala Khan from Jersey City, "an aspiring artist, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe" who soon rises as a superhero who battles the challenges that come your way as a high schooler in America. The trailer also featured Pakistani actor Nimra Bucha.
The trailer shows Khan's Pakistani roots manifest themselves in many ways. We see her rocking a shalwar kameez here and there, along with busting out some desi dance moves. Ms Marvel is also Marvel's first Muslim woman superhero and the trailer clearly highlights this aspect. In one powerful scene, Khan is seen praying in the masjid along with other women.
The promotion poster released for the series pays tribute to the Ms Marvel comic it is based on.
Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy joined Meera Menon, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah in directing the series. Sharing the trailer on social media, she said she could not be "more prouder of the story we are telling and the message we are sending out into the world". "Having just emerged from a year and a half of working on Ms Marvel, I cannot wait to share her story with the world — I know many young girls will see a reflection of themselves in her!" Obaid-Chinoy added.
Heartthrob Fawad Khan is said to have a role in the series as well, however, Khan's team has not confirmed his role to Images. The actor — if confirmed — could be starring alongside Bucha as part of the cast.
The trailer has us super excited already and now we can't wait to watch the complete show!
