Jameela Jamil says Kim Kardashian's privilege is the secret to her success

English actor and activist Jameela Jamil is known for calling out anyone promoting toxic or unhealthy narratives and this time American reality TV star Kim Kardashian is at the receiving end.

Variety posted a quote from an interview with Kardashian that featured her advice for businesswomen. “I have the best advice for women in business,” said the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star. “Get your f*****g ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”

Jamil responded to the tweet mentioning the mansion Kardashian grew up in, raised by super successful parents and hoped "nobody holds themselves to the standards of people who were raised by millionaires."

"I think if you grew up in Beverly Hills with super successful parents in what was simply a smaller mansion… nobody needs to hear your thoughts on success/work ethic. This same 24 hours in the day s**t is a nightmare. Ninety-nine point nine per cent of the world grew up with a VERY different 24 hours," the activist posted a screenshot of her retweet on Instagram, adding a long caption to explain her stance.

"Not the day after IWD [International Women's Day]…" Jamil said admitting that while the Kardashian clan are a super impressive family of businesswomen, they are products of privilege given the head-start they've had being raised by wealthy, influential parents. She added that their own hard work and personal sacrifices may have been involved but so has "a LOT of photoshop and a decision to not care about misleading people about their beauty claims whilst never disclosing how much secret work goes into their appearances." "And a huge amount of money made from questionable diet/detox products and corsets," she added.

The actor doesn't think they're the right people to get secrets to success from. "They shouldn’t answer those questions. It’s all obvious to everyone and I hope nobody holds themselves to the standards of people who were raised by millionaires."

She concluded by saying that they should do whatever they want with their money and time as long as they don't hold it over others who have less or have different ways of hustling. "Just take the money, use it for good and chill the f**k out when lecturing others about grind and hustle. And learn how to brag without putting others down who have less."

While we agree that the Kardashian family have managed to create a business empire, the idea that "we all have the same 24 hours in the day" is toxic and lacks understanding of the fact that not everyone has the same opportunities, responsibilities or privileges. The playing field is not level and we shouldn't pretend it is.

This is not the two women's first verbal tango — Kardashian has come under fire for something she's promoted previously. Jamil was quick to call her out in May 2018 for vouching for appetite suppressing lollipops, calling Kardashian a "toxic influence." Jamil has also taken a stand against influencers promoting the keto diet in Jan 2021 to oppose unnatural body standards and take a stand for body positivity.
