Here's what went down at Junaid Safdar's exuberant mayun-mehndi weekend

Are you tired of seeing pictures of Junaid Safdar's wedding festivities on your social media timelines? We're not! With the colourful outfits, decadent décor and of course, the singing skills on display, this wedding has truly rung in the shaadi season.

This weekend was all about the the mehndi and mayun events in Islamabad (the baraat and valima are still left, folks!) and with PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz's singing skills out of the way, everyone's focus is now on her clothes. So what/who was the mother of the bride wearing? Keep reading to find out.

The weekend kicked off with the Safdar family celebrating their son's mayun in Islamabad on December 11. The family made a grand entrance with the politician singing a traditional mayun song 'Mere Nehar Se Aaj Mujhe Aaya'. It was an interesting song choice for the groom's side given that it is traditionally sung by the bridal party, but hey, there's no law against mixing things up.

The groom brightened his look with a deep blue waistcoat over a crisp white kurta shalwar, paired with a shawl — a winter wedding staple. His mother, however, stole the show by wearing a vibrant yellow outfit designed by Elan. Breaking from tradition, the bride wore a grey-blue front-open outfit rather than the customary bright colours usually worn by brides on mayuns. Would we have liked to see her in something with a pop of colour? Yes. But it's her day and she can wear whatever she wants to.

The groom's side moved from PML-N leader Abbas Afridi's farmhouse to the bride's father's Chak Shahzad farmhouse. They carried the traditional mehndi and mayun trays and trinkets in a grand procession.

The very next day was the mehndi and it had all the makings of a glitzy event: musicians, colour and dhol.

Maryam Nawaz this time went for a lehenga choli by Indian designer Abhinav Mishra with a floral fishtail braid. Her look, to say the least, has become the talk of the town with many wondering how she was going to one-up her own ice blue, decked-in-diamonds look.

The bride herself was wearing a crimson dress paired with a heavily embellished copper dupatta and an elaborate chunri shawl made by Bunto Kazmi — the Karachi-based powerhouse designer. The choice of colour threw us off a bit since this shade of red is usually reserved for the baraat; but by now, it's safe to say this bride isn't fussy about fitting into the mould.

The groom's attire was a bit disappointing as he went for a clean (too clean) off-white and beige look. Can we please see some colour?

Previously, Junaid had been clicked with HSY and the designer described his look "timeless" and "classic". We really hope the designer brought some oomph to it!

Junaid and Ayesha had their nikah ceremony in London, August 22 and the wedding reception will be held on December 14 in Islamabad with a valima in Lahore on December 17, the PML-N has confirmed. Ayesha is the daughter of Saif-ur-Rehman Khan, the former head of the Ehtsaab Bureau and a close confidante of Nawaz Sharif.
