'You played like heroes': Celebrities cheer on the Men in Green after World Cup semi-final loss
Social media is full of love and praise for the Pakistan cricket team despite the semi-final defeat to Australia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Many people on social media are commending the team's spectacular performance throughout the tournament. Our celebrities are also proud of the men and are asking them to keep their chins up and come back home as heroes.
Australia's Matthew Wade crushed Pakistan's hopes of making it to the T20 World Cup final, smashing three successive sixes off Shaheen Afridi in the penultimate over and leading his team to a five-wicket victory in Dubai on Thursday. While half-centuries by Mohammad Rizwan (67) and Fakhar Zaman (55 not out) helped Pakistan reach a formidable 176-4 in the first innings, Wade's power-hitting cruised Australia to 177-5 with an over to spare. Pakistan had their chance but Hasan Ali dropped a regulation catch of the left-hander Wade at mid-wicket just before Afridi was hit for three sixes.
Celebrities such as Fakhr-e-Alam, Asim Azhar and Ali Zafar posted on social media to praise the team despite the loss.
Actor Mehwish Hayat posted a video from the Dubai stadium, saying it loud and clear that win or lose, the men in green are loved no matter what.
Writer Fatima Bhutto was also full of praise for the team.
And so were actors Osman Khalid Butt, Fahad Mustafa and Armeena Khan.
Former cricketer Shahid Afridi praised the "great fight" the men put up.
Actor Adnan Malik praised the team's performance as well as cricket Shoaib Mailk's camaraderie towards Hassan Ali.
Actor Ushna Shah reminded everyone that Hassan Ali, just like all the other players, did his very best and deserves everyone's kindness.
For singer Natasha Noorani, he's "still a king".
The T20 World Cup was quite the journey for Pakistan. From entering as underdogs to leaving the tournament as one of the best teams in the game, the trailblazing playing 11 definitely gave the nation a lot to be proud of. Well done!
