Veteran actor Abid Ali passes away in Karachi

Veteran actor, director and producer Abid Ali passed away in Karachi on Thursday, according to family. He was 67.

One of Ali's three daughters, Rahma Ali confirmed his demise in a post on Facebook.

Anjum Rizvi. Liaquat National Hospital's spokesperson, said in a statement "Abid Ali has passed away, his doctors have just confirmed. He was initially admitted due to discomfort from liver complications; he was suffering from a liver disease since last year but as he was in pain, his family brought him to us on Friday."

Daughters Rahma and Iman Aly had taken to Instagram a couple of days ago to open up about their father's condition, asking everyone to pray for his well-being.

Rahma wrote, "Papa has been extremely unwell for the past two months. Got treatments done, tried almost every available medication, tasbeehs and Surah e Rehman too, but now all the doctors have given their final verdict. Basically they've told us there's nothing they can do to save him."

She went on to say, "But there is no bigger power than Allah. If you all pray with us, maybe He will hear them. Please pray for him."

Ali was a prolific actor, perhaps best known for his role in the PTV production, Waris (1978) but also went on to work in numerous memorable dramas such as Bunty, I Love You (2013), Diyar-e-Dil (2015) and Aangan (2018) to name a few recent ones. He also appeared in numerous Lollywood movies; he last starred in the Pakistani movie, Heer Maan Ja (2019).

Abid Ali’s funeral will be held after Friday prayers at Masjid-i-Ayesha at Bahria Town, and he will be laid to rest in the Bahria Town graveyard.

Our deepest condolences go out to Ali's family. May he rest in peace.
