FIR filed against Alok Nath for allegedly raping Vinta Nanda
Over a month after Indian writer Vinta Nanda filed a complaint, the Oshiwara Police in Mumbai has registered an FIR against her rapist, the veteran actor Alok Nath.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the FIR has been registered under section 376 of IPC (rape) on Nanda's complaint.
Nanda first opened up about being raped by Alok Nath in an open letter on October 8. Nath denied the charges and his wife filed a defamation case against Nanda. In response to this, Nanda filed an official police complaint against the actor.
A senior police official had then said that “she [Nanda] gave a written application and our inquiry is on”.
She also posted an open letter on Facebook, requesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the sexual misconduct cases being fought in their country. "I request you to provide us with the space in which we will be heard...I request you to show the world, that the change we seek to end the conspiracy of silence, the support we claim for securing ourselves against the consequences of voicing our anguish; will rise above being mere platitudes and become a true reality...We're victims but are being victimised and humiliated because the men being questioned have the support of the practices and traditions of male dominance for thousands of years. They say this is no country for women. Prove them otherwise by taking action Sir."
After Nanda came forward with her story, many actors found the courage to speak up about how Alok Nath harassed them, including Sandhya Mridul and Deepika Amin.
Alok Nath has yet to comment on the FIR. His membership in the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) was cancelled earlier this month.
