Overnight Pakistani sensations Afusic and Ali Soomro reached the absolute peak of virality with their song ‘Pal Pal’ and that virality went international when British music producer and DJ Fred Again became the latest big name to add his touch to the song.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Afusic — whose real name is Affan Khan — and Soomro said the song was one of those things in life that “become bigger than us”.

The duo posted clips from a recent livestream of Fred Again and the Mexican band Latin Mafia. The Grammy-winning DJ was playing and remixing the version of ‘Pal Pal’ the Pakistanis had made in collaboration with Indian artist Talwiinder.

In the post’s caption, Soomro wrote he and Afusic “made this song purely out of love” and “just wanted to make something we believed in and let the world hear it”.

“We worked on it after our jobs, after birthdays, after whatever life threw at us. I still remember Afusic coming to the studio late at night after work, and I’d already be there, excited because we were about to create something together,” he said.

Soomro thanked Abdullah Kasumbi for giving him and Afusic guidance in their early days. “He believed in us, gave us direction and made sure our potential didn’t go to waste. His mentorship played a huge role in helping us grow.”

He also thanked Talwiinder for “trusting the song and bringing his own magic to it”.

Soomro said seeing Fred put his own twist on the track “made me realise how small the world really is”.

‘Pal Pal’ has become a musical behemoth since it released last year, quickly propelling Afusic and Soomro to becoming the eighth and ninth most streamed artists on Spotify in Pakistan.

The song itself has also made its place on the charts as Pakistan’s second-most-streamed track in the last five years.
