Fawad Chaudhry thinks women shouldn't join the police force and X is having none of it

The former minister said most women were 'completely useless as cops'.

Former information minister Fawad Chaudhry took to X on Tuesday to give Pakistan’s women some career advice: don’t join the police force.

Quoting a post about Islamabad Chief Traffic Officer Kainat Azhar Khan, he questioned why women were opting to join the police. Chaudhry added that “Most of them are completely useless as cops, also it’s terrible career choice even otherwise.”

The reaction was understandably intense, with journalist Hamid Mir telling Chaudhry this was “male chauvinism” and that he had seen the “same kind of Pakistani men bowing down in front of female diplomats”.

Chaudhry countered, saying he meant competent women should become scientists or entrepreneurs “instead of wasting talent for lust of power” as in his opinion, “cops don’t need to be very capable”.

But evidently most people did not see it that way. Many netizens asked why half of Pakistan’s population should stay away from an important profession.

Others said the minister had disrespected CTO Khan, who was doing her job like any other civil servant.

One user asked Chaudhry if he had any research to back his claim of women not being effective police officers.

Another wondered aloud what a world without women in the police force would look like and how terrible it would be for women as a whole.

Some netizens challenged the minister’s question with another question: why did he become a politician?

Whether it be Khan, Shehrbano Naqvi or Amna Baig, Pakistan’s women have made strides in policing as they have everywhere else. In such times, it’s understandable people aren’t happy with someone trying to put down hard-working women over the internet.

Male chauvinistic comments comes for weak men. Those have not achieved anything meaning full in their life. This is what is happening here. Fawad Chaudhary is a failed politician.

This man never ceases to be stupider than he was the previous time. Besides the fact that ladies are equally capable of handling any or all situations men can, could he kindly request women not to commit crimes at all, so that lady Cops would not be needed to handle them !!

So, in his view, it is ok for male Police officers to 'manhandled' female suspects, criminals or even those who are out protesting the very policies that discriminate against females in this society?? Fawad, would you like to see your sister, mother or daughter being searched, gropped or dragged by a male poilce officer, regardless of alleged wrong-doing??

Some people have this uncanny knack for embarrasing themselves, over and over again and never learn any lessons from the past.

Lack of brains in one of our politicians as usual. More than 50% of the country's population is women. Representation in the police force is essential to understand and respond to women's needs. The police isn't just about wielding sticks and taking bribes, Mr. Missing Brain.

Fawad Chaudhry an ex Minister ? he is quite shallow and thus should not demonstrate his ignorance publicly. Neither are politicians capable, else in 70 plus years, Pakistan would have progressed into a midsize power. Fawad Chaudhry, as a politician, how have you bettered the life of a common man and has Pakistan developed ?

Stereotyping is pretty stereotypical for us in Pakistan. It’s totally unfortunate a prominent politician from a party of an educated leader is making these statements. There is so much to unpack . Talented VS untalented women , people join police for lust of power , police officers are incapable. Is this guy even real ?

Stupid person who thinks this way. If women are not in the police who is going to take care of women issues? Even on a conservative level how can Mr Fawad expect conservative women to deal with non-Mehram men? He is just talking through his hat. Total idiocy
