Bollywood critic Kamaal Rashid Khan arrested in Mumbai for reportedly firing at residential building
Bollywood actor and writer Kamaal Rashid Khan, sometimes known as KRK, has been arrested by the Mumbai police in connection with a firing incident at a residential complex in the city’s western suburbs, reported The Indian Express.
According to the police, the incident occurred on January 18 in Nalanda Society in Oshiwara, Andheri. Two bullets were fired into a building — one was recovered from a second floor apartment and another from one on the fourth floor. The flats were owned by a writer-director and a model respectively.
KRK was brought in for questioning late Friday night and allegedly admitted to discharging two rounds from his licensed firearm, an official said. Forensic analysis reportedly linked the bullets to his nearby bungalow after initial CCTV footage failed to yield a clear lead.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, and his weapon has been seized as part of the investigation. The motive behind the firing remains under scrutiny as police continue their investigation.
This isn’t the first time KRK’s name has been in the headlines for something other than film reviews. The former Bigg Boss contestant and aspiring actor first made waves with 2008’s Desh Drohi — a movie that flopped both critically and commercially and remains infamous among Bollywood’s misfires.
Over the years, he carved out a niche, not for cinematic craft but for provocative social media commentary, often targeting big-name stars and industry figures.
His online provocations have previously drawn defamation suits and court orders — from veteran actors such as Manoj Bajpayee, who filed criminal complaints over derogatory tweets, to Salman Khan’s legal push against allegedly defamatory social media posts. Courts have also intervened to restrain him from publishing disparaging content.
Whether derided by critics as a troll chasing attention or defended by a vocal online following as a blunt critic, KRK’s public persona has long blurred the lines between opinionated commentary and contentious behaviour. His arrest adds another chapter to a career defined as much by contention as by cinema.
