Iffat Omar ‘humbly declines’ Punjab govt’s offer to serve as cultural adviser

The former model and actor confirmed she turned down the position after news broke of her 'appointment'.

Former model and actor Iffat Omar has declined the Punjab government’s offer to appoint her as the cultural adviser to Information Minister Azma Bokhari.

“I’ve humbly declined the offer,” Omar told Images.

Her statement comes after several publications and Instagram pages reported that Omar was appointed as the cultural adviser and would work with the information ministry to design programmes aimed at promoting and preserving Punjab’s cultural heritage.

Images has reached out to Bokhari, the Punjab information minister, for a comment.

In 2022, Omar announced that she was leaving acting and decided to shift her attention to a different platform and focus on social media work instead.

“I have decided to quit showbiz because the work is so bad and I criticise it myself. To do the work yourself and then critique it as well doesn’t feel right,” she told Images.

The model did, however, say there are chances of her returning, though it would be conditional. “If ever in life I’m offered a really great script, I will think about it — otherwise I’m done,” she said.

Currently, she hosts a podcast on YouTube titled Say It All With Iffat Omar where she interviews experts from different walks of life.

The Pakistani brand of Politics doesn't seem to be Ifat Omar's cup of tea,I reckon.

@Taj Ahmad Iffat Omar has been offered, not the post of Cultural Minister but, an advisor to the Information Minister Punjab! A cup of soup made out of the Main Cup of Soup, called locally, " Shoorbay ka Shooorba" !

Good for her. Instead of leaving it would have been nicer to see her produce something. We need new productions. Away from the same regurgitated shaadi, saas, bahu, mohabbat, which both tv channels and online streaming channels are showing. Changing the narrative is up to people with platform and money.

Iffat Umar is not only a great artist but also an iconic figure of Pakistan silver screen. She took the best decision by declining the offer of Punjab Government. Current Federal and provincial governments in Pakistan are definitly not the ture representative of people of Pakistan, and any role offered by these governments is only an insult and disgrace for the upright persolaties in the Pakistan.
