Sanam Teri Kasam, the 2016 romantic drama starring Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane, has become the first Indian film to be re-released across numerous cinemas in the UK, reported Zee News.

Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Sanam Teri Kasam’s re-release comes on the heels of its triumphant return to Indian cinemas earlier this year. There, it surprised trade analysts by emerging as a bonafide box office hit, despite underperforming when first released.

The love story is crossing continents to achieve a similar feat in the UK. According to Zee News, theatres have reported packed screenings, and early figures suggest the film is performing exceptionally well.

Hocane, who made her Bollywood debut with the film, has seen Sanam Teri Kasam enjoy a remarkable resurgence — one that coincided with her real-life wedding festivities earlier this year.

As Pakistani fans celebrated her personal milestone, fans in India flocked to cinemas to revisit the story that first introduced her to Indian screens.

According to The Indian Express, Sanam Teri Kasam raked in an impressive INR 30 to 32.5 million (approximately Rs96 to 104 million) on its fourth day post-re-release, bringing its total earnings to INR 185 million (approximately Rs595 million) — a staggering figure for a reissued title, with many cinemas running sold-out shows and additional screenings being scheduled to meet demand.

Adding to the cultural resurgence is the film’s unforgettable music. Tracks like ‘Tera Chehra’, ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, and ‘Bewajah’ have aged like fine wine, climbing music charts once again and trending across streaming platforms. A video of people breaking down to the film’s title track as the post-credit scene rolled at a theatre in Uttar Pradesh also went viral.

As Sanam Teri Kasam continues to break barriers, it becomes a testament to the power of cross-border storytelling. That a film with a Pakistani lead, an Indian co-star, and a universal message of love can unite audiences across India, Pakistan, and now the United Kingdom, speaks volumes about the impact of heartfelt cinema.

Why obsessed with cross boarder story telling when political relation between the two countries for the last 78 years remains strained.

South Asia's political/economic culture relies upon Bollywood for creating a distraction from the everyday truth. I've had South Asian friends and co-workers since the late Sixties. The December 2012 Delhi bus gang rape/murder, AND THE POLICE RESPONSE IN THE STREET AROUND THE DYING GIRL, are utterly typical of what South Asia has been reduced to. (You will protest that the police response was perfect. I will call you fascist liars.)

Tbh I just wish her all the best. She is a breath of fresh air. She is smart, accomplished as an actress, has a degree in law from the UK, got married on time and will build her own family in future. Wish her all the success and happiness.

@Fastforward Because the female lead actress is Pakistani in her first foreign/bollywood film? It was a sleeper movie and apparently flipped upon its release. But now for some reason it has been released and found commercial success almost a decade later. Its rare in show business?
