South Korean police summon BTS fan for kissing Jin without his consent
A Japanese woman is facing potential harassment charges after she allegedly kissed Jin, a member of the K-pop boyband BTS, without his consent at a fan event last year, Variety reported.
South Korean officials confirmed the news to the Associated Press on Friday.
The incident happened at Jin’s celebratory free hug event in Seoul, which was held in June 2024 to mark his completion of the mandatory South Korean military conscription and BTS’s 11th anniversary.
According to police at Seoul’s Songpa station, the woman has been summoned for questioning following an online complaint.
Viral video footage showed Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, appear visibly uncomfortable after the woman, reportedly in her 50s, suddenly kissed the K-pop superstar on his cheek during the event that drew almost 1,000 fans, Variety reported.
South Korean authorities reportedly identified the woman with help from the Japanese police, however, the woman is allegedly refusing to appear for questioning. Law enforcement officials declined to reveal her identity due to privacy issues.
In an online blog post, the woman detailed the incident and said, “My lips touched his neck. His skin was so soft,” the Yonhap news agency reported.
Investigators are reportedly considering calling in Jin to provide a statement as the victim in the case, Yonhap added.
