On Thursday, Pakistani-French fashion designer Mehmood Bhatti alleged that he was manhandled in a civil court by a group of lawyers at the behest of his brother, who also happens to be an advocate.

“I ask the chief justice what will happen to overseas Pakistanis?” he said speaking to the reporters at the Lahore High Court (LHC). The fashion designer said he travelled from Paris and spent Rs1.4m to appear in the high court.

Referring to his brother, he said, “The senior lawyer has filed 23 cases against me.”

Mr Bhatti alleged that his lawyer-brother had been threatening him, claiming that he knew everyone and that nothing could be done against him.

Litigation is pending before a civil court between the fashion designer and his elder brother, Advocate Munir Bhatti.

Mehmood Bhatti said the land had been allocated for an orphanage yet he was not being allowed to proceed with the work. He said he had been travelling from Paris to Lahore to attend the court proceedings for the last four years but there was no end in sight.

He demanded action against the senior lawyer. He alleged that at least 30 lawyers attacked him at a previous hearing in the civil court, and he regretted that no action was taken against the lawyers involved in the attack.

Munir Bhatti filed an appeal before the LHC against the denial of the right to cross-examine a witness in the property case.

The petition was filed before Justice Ali Baqar Najafi’s court; however, the hearing was adjourned without any progress.

The LHC has already suspended the proceedings of the case pending in the civil court.

It is highly unfortunate, saddening and mind-boggling to know, realize and understand that even in this day and age, this type of judicial dilemma is faced by almost all overseas green shirts every day in the "Land of the Pure" since last 75 plus years and there is no remedy in sight.

When the education system is corrupt the result will be corrupt and in Pakistan a vast majority of lawyers are from that system.

Many Pakistani lawyers behave like and are thugs. If you follow the news from time to time this fact can't have escaped ones attention. They are often unable to keep a distance between their profession and personal opinions. Even how lawyers comment on their cases, for instance the Punjab College rape case, or the case of vampire Khalil Ur Rehmans immoralities, they play judge and jury without trial and speak like they are friends with their clients and not hired legal representatives. So of course it is not far fetched to have one's lawyers friends gang up on s brother, and that too in a property dispute. Worse could happen. Like when brothers kill brothers. Which happens too. Just get armed security and he will back off. File an FIR too against the lawyers. That's all you can do. Protect yourself, Mr Bhatti. Stay in Paris. Give somebody mandate to attend hearings and speak on your behalf. Court cases in Pakistan are known to drag out. Thats how we get victims to give up their rights and eventually withdraw. Every. Day.

What a dispensation of Justice to an oversees prominent Pakistani by his own brother who happens to be a lawyer, making a legal gang to intimidate a man with noble cause. The Lawyers should be like a beacon, instead of becoming a horrifying symbol!
