Saif Ali Khan’s suspected attacker taken into police custody: Indian media
Mumbai police took into custody a suspect allegedly involved in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, Indian media reported on Friday.
Saif, 54, was stabbed six times at his Mumbai residence during an attempted burglary in the early hours of Thursday and is currently hospitalised.
According to the Indian Express the alleged suspect was brought to the Bandra police station on Friday morning for questioning. The accused is allegedly related to one of Saif’s staff members who allowed him to enter the actor’s apartment, the police said. Authorities are also questioning the staff member.
A glimpse of the alleged attacker was caught on CCTV cameras inside the building. He was locked in a room at Saif’s residence, but managed to escape, Indian Express reported.
Mumbai police registered an FIR with non-bailable sections of the Indian criminal code against the accused, the publication said.
Kareena Kapoor Khan issues statement
Saif’s wife and fellow actor Kareena Kapoor Khan issued a statement on Thursday night, requesting the media afford the family privacy.
“It has been an incredibly challenging day for our family, and we are still trying to process the events that have unfolded. As we navigate this difficult time, I respectfully and humbly request that the media and paparazzi refrain from the relentless speculation and coverage.”
Shared to her official Instagram handle, the post said the constant scrutiny and attention were not only overwhelming but posed a risk to their safety.
“I kindly request that you respect our boundaries and give us the space we need to heal and cope as a family,” Kareena wrote.
Pakistani politician reacts
Former Pakistani information minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain in a post on X said, “SRK threatened, Salman Khan targeted more than once and now Saif Ali Khan stabbed, Mumbai is not safe for Muslim superstars.”
His speculations have not been addressed by Indian authorities, nor have they indicated that this was anything more than a burglary gone wrong.
His post referred to Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan receiving a threatening call, made directly to a police station in Bandra, last November. Mumbai police later arrested Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Chhattisgarh for allegedly issuing a death threat and demanding INR 5 million
In April 2024, two members of the Bishnoi gang were arrested by Indian police for firing at the home of actor Salman Khan in retaliation for the superstar’s killing of two antelopes. Salman has been in the crosshairs of the group since 1998 for shooting two blackbucks on a recreational hunting trip. The gang’s jailed leader Lawrence Bishnoi has threatened Khan with assassination in the past.
