Veteran actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda has been hospitalised following an accidental shooting incident that occurred early Tuesday morning in Mumbai. The 60-year-old was injured in the leg by his own licensed revolver while preparing to leave for Kolkata around 4:45am, according to a report by the Times of India.

Govinda was storing the weapon in a cupboard when it accidentally fell and fired a bullet, striking him below the left knee. He was taken to CritiCare Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources told the outlet that the bullet has been successfully removed and Govinda’s condition is now stable.

Close aide Shashi Sinha confirmed the details of the accident, stating, “He was about to leave for Kolkata when the incident occurred. While handling the weapon, the bullet accidentally discharged. He is out of danger and doing well.” Sinha noted that Govinda was conscious and able to communicate with his loved ones.

His wife, Sunita Ahuja, who was not in Mumbai at the time of the incident, assured fans that Govinda is doing well and is under professional care. “I am rushing to the hospital to be with him,” TOI quoted her as saying.

Govinda’s nephew, comedian and actor Krushna Abhishek, also chimed in from Australia, reassuring fans. “He is recuperating and stable,” he said, assuring everyone that the family is optimistic about his recovery.

Govinda’s daughter, Tina Ahuja, is currently with him in the ICU. She provided an update on her father’s health, saying, “I want to assure everyone that papa’s health is much better now. After the bullet injury, he underwent successful surgery, and all tests conducted by the doctors returned positive.”

She added that Govinda would remain in the ICU for at least 24 hours for monitoring, with doctors set to assess whether further care is needed.

Most stupid to keep a loaded weapon and handle it carelessly. He could have been killed or could have killed someone.

To the knowledge i have, the fire arm cannot discharge on a drop to floor, even from many floors. Especially revolvers being more safer than the pistols. One possibility , if a cheap revolver with an improper or lose hammer may strike the primer , if the gun falls directly on the back of hammer . But then the bullet should hit the roof not on an angle lower than the knee. Difficult to buy the story. Something suspicious cannot be ruled out. just an observation shared based on some knowledge.

The pistol are always kept loaded and even chambered but with safety on, and on hidden location (from careless handlers, children and or from the perpetrator) as a best practise for spontaneous defense reactions. On this particular scenario, do read my thoughts as above.
