Social media just realised what these Bollywood titles ‘really’ mean — and it’s hilarious

Did you know Chalte Chalte had the word 'chalte' in it twice because people in the film walk with two legs?
Updated 05 Sep, 2024

X (formerly Twitter) user Nightchanges had a realisation — the Bollywood film Om Shanti Om is titled so because there are two Oms, one of the past and one of the present, however, there is only one Shanti for both of them until the end.

We’re glad they’ve finally solved this mystery, albeit a few years late. What followed was an avalanche of hilarious tweets in which other social media users highlighted their obvious discoveries.

Read on to see the funniest responses to this incredible tweet.

Firstly, there was a series of replies about the iconic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which also starred Shahrukh Khan. Why are there two ’Kuches and what does this poetic title mean? X users came together to try and explain it all.

Staying in the SRK cinematic universe, someone pointed out that Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham spells both the khabis differently! We had to fact-check this one, however, this user is correct and we are absolutely, positively, shook. There is no explanation for this except — just because. Yash Johar got us there.

Here is the movie’s poster to prove that this user is (unfortunately) right.

There was also this earth-shattering revelation:

Apart from SRK’s movies, another user realised that the movie Dhamaal was named so because they were after “the maal” [loot]. We don’t know if we should laugh or angrily cry at this take…

Some people got numerical with it. Important, because numbers do make the world go round.

Others made insightful observations.

Someone got a little literal with it and pointed out that Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani [Rocky and Rani’s Love Story] was about… one Rocky, one Rani and their love story.

Our favourites were the X users who were just there for the laughs and to be included in all the chaos.

Throwback to the Spiderman and Barbie phones and spinning toy cars that would blast this bop.

Another person said the makers of Aamir Khan’s Ghajni named it after the villain because they “forgot who the protagonist was”.

Shots were also fired at Karzzzz — which starred Himesh Reshammiya and Urmila Matondkar — and was, well, the opposite of a blockbuster.

As with all social media posts sooner or later, the K-pop fans got to this tweet as well. We’re for it though, even if we don’t totally get it.

Which one is your favourite? And did this article help you reach any realisations? Tell us in the comments!

There was a time when people in the Bollywood were crazy about film titles based upon some lucky letters, like 'K' etc., and took pains to repeat the same initials in their subsequent film titles, just on superstitions.
