Outrage has been brewing after a student of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Abdul Hadi, was killed and his brother, Abdullah Khan, injured on Saturday when a speeding car hit their motorcycle in Lahore’s DHA. According to a Dawn report, the suspect was an underage driver and was speeding when he hit the siblings.

Cantonment Division Investigation SP Bushra Nisar said the suspect is on pre-arrest bail till June 14, after which he will be presented in court. The driver, who is 17 years old, fled the scene after hitting the brothers, leaving his vehicle behind.

According to the FIR filed at the Defence C police station, the 22-year-old deceased and his 30-year-old brother were heading to Defence Raya from DHA Phase 7 on a motorcycle when the accused hit them with his Toyota Altis. The driver was going from Defence Raya to Block N while allegedly speeding and driving recklessly.

The FIR added that the victims’ motorcycle was destroyed due to the accident and Abdul Hadi succumbed to his injuries at the hospital while Abdullah was severely injured.

Following the incident, people took to social media to express their outrage, with many blaming “rich DHA kids” who could get away scot-free because of their wealth.

Due to allegations that the driver was only 17 years — while the legal driving age in Pakistan is 18 years — netizens believe that the suspect’s parents should be held responsible for the accident.

Singer Maria Unera urged people to stop letting their underaged children drive without supervision. She wrote, “It’s always the spoiled rich kids who try to get away with it,” adding that parents need to stop enabling such behaviour.

Singer Umair Jaswal also re-shared the news to his Instagram story and offered his condolences to the family.

Meanwhile, students and faculty from LUMS, where Abdul Hadi was studying engineering, called for justice using the hashtag #JusticeforAbdulHadi.

Hadi’s teacher highlighted how “signal-free corridors incentivise rash driving”. Another netizen highlighted that in Lahore’s DHA Phase 6 and 7, with people driving at high speeds, there is “100 percent chance of an accident”.

A protest is being held at Liberty Chowk on Wednesday in solidarity with the victim’s family and to demand that the driver be arrested.

One day of complaining and second day all forgotten. Make a law to throw parents in jail for giving keys to underage kids.

While I agree that the driver was underage and shouldn't have been driving let alone speeding, however looking at the cctv footage of the accident the two brothers are equally to blame. They were in the center of the road and not in the extreme left lane, besides from the footage they were not wearing helmets. So these two are also responsible. Weigh in all factors and then judge.

It's Pakistan, just pay the "tawaan" (blood money) and move on ... justice is for fat-cat thieves and thugs, not for law abiding have-nots.

Balochistan incident: influential politican killed on duty police man result zero. Kashmala tariq again influential politician's son killed man in road accident result zero. We build so posh societies and I wonder there are no footpaths made for pedestrians. It's basic need. Morally rotten society. It won't get better certainly it will go downhill unless it is morally uplifted.

In Pakistan, lawlessness is happening all the time. The police is least interested in enforcing rules, their only interest is to achieve the number of fines. This target is achieved not from car owners but from poor motor cyclists.

This under age driver should have been tested for drugs and alcohol. Police work is so inconsistent and pathetic in this case of manslaughter. Guns and automobile both in the wrong hands can kill innocent people.

This practice of driving by unlicensed persons is increasing day by day, and in some cases, even school kids drive cars (sometimes recklessly). Police is busy in their own heinous businesses, having no time to concentrate on their duties.

In Karachi too, in all walks of life, rich or poor, parents give in to their underage sons' demands for bikes. See many riding recklessly daily in the Garden East area. The traffic police should confiscate the vehicle, put it up for public auction, and fine the parents. Both fines and public auction sales should be used to help fund the public entity to make them self-sufficient and improve functions and processes.

this is where we are heading to , we knowingly push our kids to be in institutes like ISL, Beacon, LGS in DHA and then mourn on digi platforms that what happened to our kids , we all are in it, we need to get self out of this so called liberalism and so called "confidence shatter na ho jae" mindset, confidence to young kids should be given but on cost of lives, disrespect and drug addiction.
