Veteran actor Shaukat Zaidi laid to rest in Lahore

The Hum Sub Umeed Se Hain star had been battling a prolonged lung illness

Renowned actor and journalist Shaukat Zaidi passed away in Lahore on Saturday after battling a prolonged lung disease and was laid to rest on Sunday. He was 69.

His son, and childhood friend and actor Jawad Wasim confirmed to Images that Zaidi had been suffering from lung disease for a long time and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Johar Town for the past month. The veteran had been placed on the ventilator prior to his demise.

Zaidi’s funeral prayers were performed at the Miyani Sahib graveyard with actors Sohail Ahmed, Jawad Wasim, Parvez Raza, Aurangzeb Leghari and Mujahid Abbas, and director Qaiser Javed present.

A pillar of the entertainment industry for over 40 years, Zaidi started his career with theatre plays, such as Jhoot Ke Paon and Fasaad Ki Jaar, and went on to write and direct 15 plays.

His career was characterised by impactful performances in numerous dramas, most notably in Wafa Ka Mausam as well as the political satire show Hum Sub Umeed Se Hain, which highlighted public issues.

The actor also wrote a book of poetry, which has not been published yet.

Actor and anchor Sami Khan expressed his condolences via Instagram.

Fans of the actor also took to social media to convey their sympathies and pray for the deceased.

He is survived by one son, two daughters and his spouse.
