The Billboard Hot 100 just got hotter with the entry of Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’
Ryan Gosling’s Ken is k-enough to get on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. His angsty single ‘I’m Just Ken’ officially entered the chart at No 87, marking the actor’s first-ever chart entry.
The song, released on July 21, started off with 5.2 million US streams and 2,000 downloads sold in its opening week, according to Luminate. It also debuts at No 4 on Hot Rock Songs and No 5 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, as well as No 39 on Digital Song Sales.
It’s not just Ken though — a number of songs from the Barbie soundtrack have entered the Hot 100. The soundtrack debuted at No 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Singing the song was actually Gosling’s idea, Mark Ronson, the executive producer of Barbie The Album told Vanity Fair earlier in July.
Gosling apparently related to the song so deeply that he asked to perform it in the film. “He really got [that] it had to walk this line of not being funny or parody,” said Ronson. “But obviously, the song is also kind of ridiculous at times. So he was really amazing, and when he really did start hitting the big notes, I was like, this dude is a vocal powerhouse!”
While ‘I’m Just Ken’ is a serious bop, it isn’t Gosling’s only song on the Barbie soundtrack — he also covered Matchbox Twenty’s ‘Push’. We think we need a whole album of K-energy songs from Gosling.
