The iconic song that made it to the top of music charts and the reason why Ali Sethi made it to Coachella and became a global sensation in 2022 — ‘Pasoori’ — is being apparently being recreated for an upcoming Indian movie, Satyaprem Ki Katha, starring Kartik Aryan and Kiara Advani.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the producer of the film, Sajid Nadiadwala, has decided to add the sensational hit to the movie as an additional song and will soon be shooting for it. The creators aim to capture the magic and popularity of the original Coke Studio song while infusing it with their creative interpretation.

Sources told Indian media that the team has meticulously planned a two-day shoot in Mumbai, with the aim of presenting a final masterpiece during the film’s release week. They hope to recreate the same enchantment and buzz that the song generated in the digital world.

The love story is directed by Sameer Vidwans and is set to release on June 28.

Images reached out to Coke Studio about the development. A representative for the studio said, “The ownership of the song ‘Pasoori’ lies with singer and composer Ali Sethi”. The singer has not responded to requests for a comment.

The rights to the song are held by various music rights societies, including Believe Music, LatinAutorPerf, LatinAutor - SonyATV, Abramus Digital, ASCAP, and The Royalty Network.

‘Pasoori’ gained immense popularity as a single from Coke Studio Pakistan’s 14th season, performed by acclaimed singer Sethi and featuring vocalist Shae Gill. Upon its release on February 6, 2022, the song went viral, captivating audiences worldwide.

It achieved a significant milestone by appearing on Spotify’s prestigious Viral 50 Global chart, becoming the first Pakistani song to achieve this feat. The song’s success extended to its inclusion in the Disney+ miniseries Ms. Marvel and the off-Broadway production Monsoon Wedding.

It seems like fans don’t want the song to be recreated either.

Some people were particularly possessive over the song being used for an Indian movie.

Satyaprem Ki Katha has already created a buzz with its music. Three songs from the film have been released and well-received by audiences, with two more songs set to be released in the coming days. It remains to be seen whether the ‘Pasoori’ can live up to the benchmark set by the original song.
