There’s no denying that Babar Azam is one of the best cricketers in the world right now. Some may even say, he is the best to ever play the sport. Just recently, during the fourth ODI match against New Zealand in Karachi on Friday, Babar scored a remarkable century and was rewarded with the player of the match award.

Not only did the captain help our side to win the match, he achieved two major feats that night — he brought Pakistan to the top of the one-day international rankings and also became the fastest batter to reach 5,000 ODI runs.

This is the first time Pakistan has reached the number one spot in the rankings since its official recognition by the International Cricket Council in 2005. Earlier, the team managed to get to the third position, once in 2018 and then again in 2022.

His 18th ODI hundred took him past the mark in his 97th innings in the format, beating former South Africa batter Hashim Amla’s previous record of 101 innings. He has also been the number one ODI batter in the world for the past two years now.

This was more than enough to send the internet into a frenzy. Babar has been non-stop trending on Twitter with cricket fans going gaga over the skipper — and rightfully so.

“And then Babar Azam became our captain.” Enough said.

Of course, when you’re “Babar Azam”, this is just another day for you.

Who knew AP Dhillion’s ‘Summer High’ would perfectly match the vibe of Babar reaching his 18th ODI hundred?

It took the skipper nine years since he became a part of the “senior camp” to take his side to the number one spot in ODI cricket.

His journey is one for the history books.

Despite all the ‘drama’, the team remains united under their captain, one user said.

Let’s all thank God for being alive during the Babar Azam era.

It is a proud moment for every Pakistani and they must recognise the “sheer hard work, talent and spirit” of the “players, coaches and fans who have supported the team”.
