US Vice President Kamala Harris, actor Priyanka Chopra discuss mansplaining, abortion rights

Chopra started the session with a jab at men patronising women, “do you hear that sound? That is the sound of no mansplaining, ladies,” she joked.

US Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday reminded top female Democrats of their duty to fight for reproductive rights and how electing two more Democratic senators in the upcoming midterm elections is critical to that fight.

“If there were ever any reason for this group to exist in recent memory, the moment is now,” Harris said during the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday in Washington.

“We have got to do everything we can in the next 39 days to remind people what is at stake in these elections,” she said during a panel moderated by actor Priyanka Chopra.

Chopra started the session with a jab at men patronising women. Pointing to the silence in the room, she joked “Do you hear that sound? That is the sound of no mansplaining, ladies.” Earlier this month, President Joe Biden vowed that Democrats would codify the right to an abortion into law if two more Democratic senators are elected to the US Senate in the Nov 8 mid-terms, saying it would open the possibility of removing the filibuster, a legislative roadblock which requires a 60-vote majority to overcome.

The Senate is now evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, with Harris’ tie-breaking vote as vice president giving Democrats thin control. But two Democratic senators have opposed ending the filibuster.

Abortion has become a major issue for voters across the country after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organisation decision in June overturned the right to have an abortion enshrined nearly 50 years earlier in Roe v. Wade.

Nearly half of states have banned, placed limits on, or attempted to ban abortion. Some Republicans, such as Senator Lindsey Graham earlier this month, have proposed a national ban on abortions after 15 weeks, or within the second trimester of a pregnancy.

Kamala Harris is one of the least liked politicians in the US today, she is the reason Biden will not be re-elected and Trump will most likely. Biden only chose her to have a black candidate in the wake of BLM protests in 2020.

Indian-origin Srimati Kamala Devi is the current US Vice-President.

Let me(a man) tell them what mansplaining is. It is the explanation of something by a man, typically to a woman, in a manner regarded as condescending or patronizing.

@M. Emad She is an embarrassment for President Biden!
Rafique Oct 01, 2022 01:12pm
@Texas Tariq, She is also Indo-American!
Sam Oct 01, 2022 01:23pm
@M. Emad She turned out to be a bad choice by Biden! Re-election of Biden is a big question mark!

Chopra should chose her company morer wisely. Harris, the giggly VP who was the token woman and dark skinned person selected by the Democrats has proved to be the most inept, indeed hopless VP in the history of that office. Not only has she completely and utterly failed to do her job to protect the US's borders (more than 2.2 million illegal arrivals so far across the Rio Grande from Mexico), she blundered only days ago in South Korea lauding the United States close relationship with "North Korea".

@M. Emad Unfortunately she was projected as an African-American candidate but in reality she was an Indian-American, that why a large segment of African American disown her!

This VP is the reason Trump will win the next elections.

One tries to sell showing skin and the other sells the color of the skin. No one cares for either in USA
kumaran Oct 01, 2022 08:05pm
@M. Emad She is Indian only by name. A black Jamaican otherwise
kumaran Oct 01, 2022 08:08pm
@A Dino She never linked herself to Indian culture ever except during the elections. As American Indian I would never vote for her. One of the most corrupt who colluded with local church on bailing criminals in the name of the color of the skin.

@Soniye Tu Auder Te La Don't agree, it's Biden, that Biden will loose if he is allowed to re run, most likely he will not seek, or other Dems will pull him out of the election.

Nobody cares what Kamala Harris says, the last time she ran for presidential election she received a whopping 1% votes.
