Fans cheer the return of the kings after Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan’s match-winning performance against England
The Pakistan cricket team is back in action, especially everyone’s favourite opening duo Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan who were hailed for the massive victory against England.
On Thursday, the captain and his vice-captain batted against the England team during the T20I in Karachi and singlehandedly made 203 runs, no outs. The Pakistan cricket team won by 10 wickets with three balls left. The captain made a century with Rizwan falling behind by few numbers of making a century as well.
Pakistan became the first team to chase down a target of 200 without losing a wicket as Babar and Rizwan set the record for the highest partnership for the opening wicket. It was a timely boost for the side after they were outplayed in the opening game — England’s first in the country in 17 years.
Their team effort was praised by PM Shehbaz Sharif who seemed to have followed the match. He wrote, “152/0 and now 203/0. Babar and Rizwan,” with a Pakistan flag emoji and a clapping emoji.
In fact, Twitter was awash with people praising their performance. “If you think Babar and Rizwan have been the problem… you really haven’t been watching the last couple of years,” wrote cricket commentator and former England captain Nasser Hussain.
Fellow team member Hassan Ali gave titles to the two batsmen — the King of Pakistan for the captain and the Superman of Pakistan for the vice-captain.
King Babar is back. Even former cricketer Wasim Akram says so.
A Twitter user jokingly credited Hollywood star Angelina Jolie’s arrival in Pakistan and the “blessings” her visit have brought to the country.
This user wants two cities named after the cricketers, Babarabad and Rizwan Nagar.
Some Twitter users were just happy to see the batsmen happy.
Those hugs though.
People were side-eyeing former cricketer Aqib Javed who criticised Azam recently.
They’re “khatarnak [dangerous]” indeed.
This user believes that if proving haters wrong is an art, then Azam and Rizwan are Picasso.
The next match will be held today, Friday, at Karachi’s National Stadium.
