Aima Baig and Shahbaz Shigri have called it quits

The singer indicated that the breakup was amicable and that she will always respect her ex-fiancé.

Aima Baig and Shahbaz Shigri aren’t together anymore. The singer announced the news on Instagram on Friday afternoon, clearing the air weeks after fans noticed that she and her fiancé had deleted all their pictures together on Instagram.

The pop star shared a note on Instagram captioned “c’est la vie” which translates to such is life, to announce the breakup. “Yes, I will always respect this person for giving me a good time. Sometimes, sh*t happens and happens for a reason,” she wrote.

Getting straight to the point, she rid fans of their curiosity. “And to answer all your questions, yes we have parted ways,” she said, adding that they did it on good terms. “But we both are doing good and fine so don’t you worry. I wanted to do it in the most respectful way and so I did. People can choose their ways of expressing their feelings, that defines who they are from the inside. That’s me, telling the truth to anyone wondering are they or are they not together? And the answer is nope, me and Shahbaz are not together anymore.”

The ‘Baazi’ singer wants no one sympathising with her or sending “feeling sorry texts”. She assured fans that both of them are doing “just fine”. It seems like Baig is prioritising her career at the moment as she concluded with, “Music is life, let’s see where it takes us.”

Baig and Shigri had gone MIA from our feeds but it was after they deleted their photos together off their social media accounts that fans started speculating. Purging your accounts of your significant other’s photos is a true modern day sign of a breakup.

The couple officially got engaged last year in July and the ceremony was attended by actors Hania Aamir and Ali Rehman Khan as well as singer Uzair Jaswal. The ex-couple was open about how they felt and often posted lovingly about each other on social media.

Aima called it quit on Shigri today, citing that he was too "American". I saw it coming from a Mile away.

Although it is their mutual decision which should be respected but, it must be noted that, there is no contribution in the matter of the parents of the pair, which is an essential item in such of our matters.

Maybe this should teach us how to deal with a break up in a respectful way. Everyone criticizing Aima and saying her engagement didn't involve her parents does not know anything about her. Her father was shown to be happy in the pictures. I think it's only Pakistanis who themselves prevent their daughters and sisters from choosing their own partners who are unable to digest weddings in which the bride is happy and it's not a business transactions. I guess so many Pakistanis are raised with this regressive belief that young women's lives should be owned by their parents and they should have no agency over their own future. She is fortunate to belong from a progressive and loving family that places great value on her happiness instead of believing in such backward ideals of shaadi being all about the parents of the bride and groom and not love and compatibility between the couple.
