Canadian pop singer The Weeknd cut short a concert in California on Saturday after he lost his voice mid-performance.

After four songs at the SoFi stadium, the performer said he needed to cancel the show and told the audience they will be getting their money back. “My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated,” The Weeknd said in a tweet and promised he will make it up with a new date.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, began his recording career in 2010 and has won four Grammy Awards so far.

His latest album, Dawn FM, released in January and is the singer’s most creative project yet. Left behind is the blood-slashed, manic super-villain singing about overindulgence and self-loathing we last saw in After Hours for a more mature and playful persona most interested in dancing off the pain of melancholia (and the pandemic) through the many dance-pop and escapist songs from the Toronto-born singer’s latest 16-track album.

He has bagged several awards throughout his career and his hit song ‘Blinding Lights’ even made it to the Billboard 100 list, dethroning all-time No.1 Billboard single ‘The Twist’.
